BEWARE: Don't buy custom casted parts from Night Owl Studios
Posted in
Trading PostHey everyone,
I've just been through the ringer trying to get $28.50US refunded back after a no-reply, no product transaction with "Corey Garza": the guy who runs a custom figure casting business called "Night Owl Studios":
http://nightowlstudios.weblodge.net/
His products looked really cool. After I'd paid, I was told that his equipment was broken. That was in February 2009.
I send multiple (always polite) emails asking him how thing were going / status on my order and equipment.
Well, the 45 day window for Paypal to get a chargeback came and went, and because I was trying to work with the guy and give him a lot of time to finish the job -- I was crap out of luck with Paypal's refund policy.
It took VISA doing it's thing to get my a refund - and this was a one-time favor for them to get me the cash back.
Moral of the story: When ordering custom casted pieces - if they don't arrive within 25 days, set up a paypal dispute right away to allow time for things to play out. Don't get nailed like I did.
That, and until Corey at Night Owl Studios gets his crap together, don't buy from him.
If anyone has questions about what I've mentioned above, drop me a PM and I'll discuss it with you.
Regards,
-Blayne

If this jerk is pulling this stuff with multiple people, he needs a darn wakeup call.
I'm sorry this happened to you too man, but I feel a little better that there's the possibility he will be stopped from doing it further if more complaints are leveled against him.
I escalated the claim the other day.
and my 2 cents again - Sinister or not, if you're doing business with people and making promises and taking money/making financial gain, you now have a responsibility to uphold your end of the deal. College or not - he owes a few people money/parts/etc. College doesn't take up 100% of your time to the extent that you can't answer emails. Trust me. I've been to 3 and I teach at one now.
Hopefully getting his paypal account suspended will be a wake-up call for this guy.
thanks for the heads up.
Thanks for your perspective on the situation. I can understand being busy, but all it requires is a refund to the people who paid him if he can't produce items for 3 months +. Either that, or an automated email message - he uses Yahoo for email - and from what I recall, that service supports automated replies.
Intentional or not, he's let down.

I think I might have some insight into this. I talk to him often through emails, since I help him with his Mignola sculpts. The last time I talked to him, (mid February) he told me that he was going to be in college and wanted to take a break from the casting so he could focus.
I'm sure he is not up to anything sinister, but is just very busy with schoolwork, and that when he gets time, he'll do his best to help everyone out with their situations. He's a great guy, and would not do anything to intentionally scam anyone.
I hope this helped.

Yes, the Night Owl Studios has some nice looking stuff. Too bad the guys operating like a scammer.

Correy Garza is a scammer!! I bought a figure and 2 casted swords from his site on Feb 21st for $17.50. On the 26th I sent a polite inquiry as to the status and to make sure he received the payment, etc. He said the swords were in the process of being casted and he'd send me an email with a delivery confirmation once they mailed out.
A month later, having heard nothing I emailed him (politely) again to get an update. No response. I PM'd him thru thefwoosh (cgarza)... No response. I sent an email through his website (Night Owl Studios)... No response.
I have entered a PayPal claim against him, but of course I have to wait until the 29th of April before I can escalate the matter. They want to give the seller an opportunity to respond... Like he even will.
Buyers BEWARE. Night Owl Studios is a rip-off. DO NOT ORDER ANYTHING.
