weapon casting!

Posted in Trading Post

hey guys whats up, so for the last week or so I've been practicing molding/casting weapons and heads. its pretty fun, definitely challenging! right about now tho if I want to keep on working on this new venture, I am going to have to open my armory to you guys. so if you see anything you like lemme know! shoot me an offer, comment, whatever. I am not lookin to get rich but im also not trying to go broke, so please a fair offer. lemme know what you want and I will try to make it a reality! if I get a cast worthy of selling I will sell it for the agreed upon price!

I would love to just cast my whole collection and just post it in my b/s/t but its definitely not gonna be an option at this point, haha trial and error is ussually 90% error. so I would rather fail a lot at something specific for someone on here than fail at everything for my own displeasure

thanks guys! I appreciate any support!

That's cool man. Thanks for the response. Good luck with your casting. I just got into it so I know how hard yet rewarding it can be.

im have some trouble getting any solid casts out of the 1 sword mold I have so far, and im almost out of silicone so my last bit will prolly go to a head or a gun since it will require less than the sword will. but im not done tryin to get this casting thing goin so check back, when I get any new casts made up I will certainly post!

Do you happen to have any hats that you could cast? I really need a bowler or fedora for a TDK/TDKR Riddler figure I am trying to custom but can't seem to have any luck finding one.

You should PM either Red Rebel or Star Wars Geek, both cast and both are amazing at it

not much progress, still having trouble getting the trigger guards to come out and having lil air bubbles fudge me all up. but I did a few new molds to try some bigger items. any advice from people with casting experience? im also still trying to figure out the best places to put the spruces to get the resin to fill the mold and the air vent to get those bubbles out. a few of my older molds are started to lose some intergirty so I will probably be remolding some when I get around to buyin more of the mold, also if anyone knows a good/ less expensive alternative to the smooth on stuff, I do like it and its easy to use but its not easy on the wallet (thanks to any recent realmers who bought stuff from me, your money is going right back into more action figurey goodness)

so heres the pix!

as you can see the trigger guards on almost all these suck, I dint really clean up any flashing or excess mold cuz they are basically fails

got a few more solid casts out, but these are mostly ok, aside from some cleaning up and painting

new molds! the one revolver came out pretty good, needs cleaned up a bit, the other didn't have the scop come out so good so I just cut it off, also has some hollowness to the bottom of the handle, the knife as well

deadpool supports DBM castings, jus sayin

again advice, tips, comments, whatever I'd appreciate it!! I have a mold for a remmington 870 made up too but havent gotten a chance to really cast it yet, next day off, man free time is really hard to come by these days

progress so far

fails

taskmaster swords, I may be able to salvage the one but I need a way to fill the handle since its hollow
mp5, haha ummm barely half the gun came out, that whole mold is prolly wasted
M1911s just no good, although one has a good handle and the other has a good slide, so maybe I'll see if I can do some plastic surgery! (feel free to chuckle or shake you head at that one)
a vigilante revolver, just no
then theres about 60% of a glock

now decent ones!!

2 decent USPs? not sure what they are actually one I did a lil layer of paint cuz im impatient
a glock that is actually from 2 semi fails. the one was almost ok but the mag didn't come out, the other was not ok, but the mag did work, voila! removable mag!! that makes it DELUXE!!!
M1911 that is pretty ok just need a lil love from some fine sand paper to clean up a lil excess resin
then here is the beginning of my bat gadgets, batgets! grapple hook launcher, and a grapple gun that I am working on, based on one my 89 kenner speargun casts. gonna try to shape the handle to fit a DCU type open hand, also gonna try to give the handle some type of designish feel. but my fixit sculpt is about 6 years old and is comin out a lil grainy, so its not sanding as well as it once was.

feedback, opinions, criticisms, anything is welcomed!

Honestly even if the casts themselves end up not working out (which I know they will) I'm having blast with all the updates

don't you like the one cable comes with? why you gotta be a hater? haha I made a few holsters ut of fix it sculpt. roll it thin, wrap it loosely around the gun, but enough to have a lil definition and let it cure, u can also coat the gun in pam or something to make sure the sculpt doesn't bond to the weapon, but as long as its loose enough it shouldn't. great shrink wrap idea!!

also for anyone who has discussed order with me, I just finished setting the 2nd mold parts for the Glock and a Taskmaster Sword also started 2 more with the excess mold I made, eye balling it is tough, gotta have a few extras ready to go! tryin a revolver to see if I can cut it down for a guy who wants a snub nose, and I started molding a grapple hook launcher for a batman!!! if I can get that thing to turn out ok, I think people are gonna really dig it and want one for their batmen!

also on a head update, I did start to work on patching the air bubbles in the task master head, but I think my fixit sculp has started to go bad maybe I mixed it crappily tho, we'll see! in any event I need my dremel to get that going and its a lil late for that, don't wanna wake the lady or the baby, but tomorrow I will try to get it smoohted out! also working on a arkham city nightwing head, already have it molded just need a better cast.

if anyone else wants a glock lemme know!!!!

also have a 1911 mold that I and still trying to convince to stop looking crappy, but it has a very convincing argument, so its tough. will get pix up tomorrow sometime after I attempt the glock and sword cast!

Also for the pistol. I thought that the Avatar figure, mil-contractor guy had a large framed revolver. get a copy of the MP5 with the Aimpoint Red dot scope, place that on the revolver, paint it silver and that might be pretty close.

the mp5 w/ scope is top row, second from the left, next to the m14.

Shoot early and shoot often..
Good luck and God bless.....

I've been thinking about this for awhile but havent had the time to try it, but..... if you are familiar with those Shrink wrap shields used for small wires? when you splice wires and twist them together or with male/female connectors, you slide this loose fitting sheath over top of it.... and with a blow dryer it shrinks to make a tight connection. I bet you can do that on a pistol and it will look like a Kydex formed holster.

hope this helps.

I do like that Sanke one, is it 6 inch scale? My only concern with either of those is finding a holster that may fit them. I want Grifter to have the pistos, I already have a bow for him, and I need to find some type of larger gun as well.

well they is one in the pic, came with xmc stealth wolverine and the walmart 2 pack cable. will that work? I have a revolver with a scope but dependng on the scale it may be small, plaus grifter need a hefty badass gun! I have another realmer offering me a trade on one of my guns for a scope revolver, snake plisken style, kinda feel like that may be perfect?

not sure what that one looks like sadly

hmm those ammo belts are gonna be touch unless I find a flexible or rubbery resin. I did email you about the stuff from the pm. I have 2 guys that are looking for some similar items so ima try to cast those first but I can try to bust out one of those LMGS, I have to look but the bipod may be damaged, I think the one leg is half broken, the m249 is good tho from what I can remember

Let me know how you would like to procede.

I have a shotgun like the sawed off one in the pic, but with the stock and slightly longer barrel, may actually be from this figure

all the pistol grip ones I have are in the pic, the one up top would prolly be better for the scale, it has a tac light on the pump if thats ok

I actually cut it down for a mmjoker figure haha. the glocks fit great in his hand btws. I do not have snub nose revolver, but I have the dcu vigilante figure

http://www.poeghostal.com/2009/12/the-a ... semen.html

those are the weapons he comes with if you think the uzi or revolver will work, I can always just cut the barrel down on the revolver

have a few kitanas in the pic, does ra's use a kitana or ninjato? I can't remember. a kitana has a curved blade, a ninjato has a straight blade. I think I have both style so see if any of those will work

I do not have the sdcc weapons, I wish. im working on a grapple gun for batman, havent had a free day to o much this week but

http://www.figurerealm.com/forums/viewt ... 15&t=41257

thats what im working from

anyway I will definitely try to mold some of that stuff. I have a pistol mold done, its a USP kinda pistol from a mcfarlane navy seal I think, so its slightly more detailed than the ones that came with the marvel nick fury.

just lemme know about which shotguns you want cuz I will try those first. just so you know this isnt a quick process but I will definitely do my best to work on it when I have free time. that said I am going to go an attempt to cast an mp5, m1911 and usp that I molded last week. wish me luck

Want to fit several Dark Knight Movie Master figures with weapons, basically. Need two shotguns, a regular Remington 870 if you have one and the pistol grip. Need two Glock 17 with the extended magazine for the Joker, which it looks like you have. Maybe a MAC 10 and a samurai sword for Ras. Also need a little snubnose revolver for Two Face and I'll say two handguns just to round it out. Also, is there any chance you have and can cast the sdcc batman weapons?

As far as price, I'm prepared to pay what ckcastings charges. $4 for large guns, $3 for medium, $1.50 for small or 3 for $4. So in this instance I'd go 3-4 each for the 2 shotguns, 3 for the sword and 8 for the 5 handguns and MAC 10, so looking at maybe $21 with shipping, I'm assuming you live in the lower 50 of the U.S... Of course, if you could do the Batman weapons, that is a game changer...

What do you think?

well with this being a somewhat test run/ start up thing I am not really sure. I know I wouldn't spend $5 on a small pistol so no way im charging that. at the same time those big bitches up in the corner take 4-5X the amount of silicone to mold so they will obviosly be more. was there something specific you were curious about? cuz generally the prices are going to vary quite a bit, but if you lemme know which ones I will send you a price quote that we can negotiate until we find a nice fair price. believe it or not but some of these are from figures I bought solely for their guns, haha I just got a new battlestar galactica figure cuz he had a badass smg

basically if I wanna do this legit I will need to do more test mold and casts, which will probably require another kit since I am running low on mold (me and my lil sis when halfisies on the kit so no I do not suck that much! she just used a bunch to cast some awesome parts to make dragon puppets out of, sweet but they are huge) anyway so we are gonna split another kit. my half is about $30 so if I can make some or most of that on here I'd be psyched and I can explain to my gf that no baby, im not spending grocery money on toys, im spending toy money on toys

again if we are in the talks and I just can't manage to get a good cast, you aren't obligated to pay anything, if I get a good cast I would love to sell it to ya!

hit that email or just post it here, I check my forums whenever I see someone that isnt me has the last post so basically daily, just be sure to lemme know what guns, a description, or where its placed in the photo or the model of the gun since I am pretty good with those, and lemme know what you're thinking as far as price goes. im easy to work with, and im not affraid to let someone know when a price is off.

if you don't mind sending it in the mail I can try, that woud be kool since I don't have any. if u have pics id love to see them since I an seeing with different guns what some trouble parts are starting to look like. if I take a look and I think I can manage then id love to! I can almost tell that the string part won't come out in a cast tho, but im sure we can find a real string to throw on the and give it a sweet unique look, post a pic on here, in a pm or email to mailto:deathbymexico@yahoo.com and we'll talk
