Is he up there with Thor and Wolverine? Or is he like a C-list hero? Well, anyway, here's a fun comic. I'll recreate it with figures when I find a suitable background/props:
The thing is, DD is a great idea with not so great writers. I thought the only one to write a good DD story was Miller(can't stand Smith-sorry) I think they get too hung up on what he can't do to focus on what he can. The Man Without Fear LS is, in my oppinon, the best DD story ever(written by Miller). If you havent read it pick it up.
Yeah I get your point Bob-a, about the Cheese - but like you said - thats part n parcel of any comic character
I can't think of one superhero that didn't have a comics story that was cheesy
Saying that tho I rank him as an A-lister as he's a product of the 60s and still going strong-
Any character thats in his own book after so long got so much depth and history to him - and got a moderately succesful movie or two is classified as A-list
(I count DD directors cut as a seperate film)
But youre right, Miller and Smith are terrific DD writers
To awnser your question I think DD is a b list hero I wish he was A list I love most of the stories. But finding people like kevin Smith and frank miller who can really write to stay on the project is tough and finding artists who candraw worth a dang is harder still. There has been some great DD stories and sad but true a lot of cheesey hokey ones too. but like anycomic worth reading you got to roll with the punches.
DD means a lot to me
Hes had a pretty tragic life before his sight got stolen from him...
I'v been a comicbook lover, artist and recovering from losing my own sight over the last decade
I now can see out only one eye - hence my nickname Deadeye - so yeah DD's a A-list Hero for me anyway
Other Blind heroes are too few and far between - only BIGGSIH one I can think of is Dr Midnite from DC's Golden Era
Daredevil's had some very cool characters and creepy villians in his books - especially during the Miller Era - Elektra, Bullseye, The Hand, Kingpin, The Owl, Deathstalker to name but a few
And Tho I would go along the lines that hes simialr to batman in many ways
I think MoonKnight and The Dark Knight have a lot more in common being that they are both independently wealthy and fight crime using signature thrown gadgets
DD and his unique status as a blind hero with enhanced abilities has made me create my own comicbook character (Please see my Avvy and visit the Deadeye Samurai Thread in this section)
DD seems to be Marvel's answer to Batman - gritty urban crime with some really sick and deranged villians. He runs on the fringe of the Marvel Universe and doesn't get caught up with the teams or Cosmic crisis like most of the others do.
They made a DD movie so he must be pretty big in the Marvel Universe.
Never got much into DD, he didn't seem too interesting to me. His comics might be pretty good but I think it's more interesting when he's in a crossover story(like this).
For obvious reasons DD means and will always mean a lot to me-
I even got a DD tat on my chest

I been trying to play catchup ever since - but its impossible
Good to see Steve Dillons artwork again
