That was Hal Jordan. What I find funny is how badly represented his powers were in his first few apperances in the show. When he made something, it would become that things exact color scheme! When he made a raft, it turned YELLOW! In the comics, all costructs remain a semi-translucant green or solid, shiny green. Though I loved his voice actor. Fit Hal perfectly!
John Stewart (GL) first appeared sometime in the late 70's or early 80's. John Stewart (Person) only started hosting the Daily Show in 96 or 97 not sure. He has been in comedy for at least over a decade.
Don't feel bad, John is one of the lesser known GL's up until the JL and JLU cartoons which ROCKED. In the comic's he never dated Hawkgirl but had a human wife that was killed off, brought back, and killed off again. He is also and architect in the comics and I do not believe he had a military backround. His professien even bleeds into his constructs as they are always complex and highly detailed in design, while in the cartoons, he started off with very simple, basic forms that did their jobs, until he was chasticed by his former teacher/lover for his lack of imagination, a crucial factor for ANY GL and promptly started making more creative and detailed constructs.
And Guy STILL getting any love! Go Kyle!
Ahhh so it's just a big coincidence? Cool. I'm not really knowledgeable about DC (I'm a Marvel guy) aside from the franchise heavy hitters like Batman and Superman, so it's no surprise that I don't know anything about GL.

Jordan for the same reason, GL Vol 3 was the series I started to get into comics, it got a soap-opera-ish but by then I discovered Sonja and Punisher and Batman.
