What A Good Week!

Posted in Off Topic

just read the new books this week >

Conan #48
Captain America #34
Avengers: The Initiative #9
Mighty Avengers #8
New Avengers Annual #2

and damn they were all pretty good! especially Captain America - I don't like the new costume but James "Bucky" Barnes is gonna make a kick ass Cap.

Conan #48 - best issue of the whole damn series. are Truman & Giorello going to be the creative team on the new series? I hope. Giorello's art is great!

Avengers: The Initiative - whoa! cadets & instructors getting wasted. big time.

I also got The Spirit #13 and Ult X-Men #90 they were ok... nothing spectacular though.

hey! you dropped an F-Bomb in your post! how did you do that?!

yeah I think that Janissa was their answer to not having a Red Sonja - Janissa had a pretty fudged up origin.

Captain America #34 had the debut of Winter Soldier / Bucky as the new Captain America accompanied by Black Widow. Tony Stark has Cap out as an unregistered hero too! Stark is finally realizing the Registration Act ain't working as politicians try to tie his hands with their crappy agendas while he's trying to save the world. the story very cool and understated and yet bad @ss all the same. very solid story & great plot.

I also bought the TPB of CA: Winter Soldier Vol. 1 last week (collects CA 1 - 7) - reading that & issue #34 made me decide to go back to my CS today and buy Captain America 26 - 33 and I ordered the other collections from before Civil War. I had the TPB for Civil War: Captain America and issue #25 already.

I have to agree with the guy that owns the CS I go to - Captain America is the BEST title Marvel is putting out right now.

Brubaker also writes Daredevil - I wonder if it is as good?

and speaking of the Registration Act not working; it's made even more apparent in the new issue of Avengers: Initiative -where cadets and instructors are getting wasted by a crazed clone with a big alien weapon. hope he slaughters Gyrich.

New Avengers Annual had the team in a knock down drag out with The Hood and his formidable gang in Dr Strange's sanctum. the team gets a big beatdown for most of it but Doc Strange saves the day. unfortunately the battle has blown the mystical cover Strange had cast over his mansion and Ms Marvel shows up with a herd of SHEILD agents... and lets the New Avengers escape. except... Jessica Jones-Cage had escaped with her and Luke's baby before the battle started and the end of the issue shows her begging to be let into Stark Tower so she can register and protect her baby. trouble's brewing...

I also see in the new Diamond Preview that Batman RIP is going to happen. I think this is such a bad concept and just a boldface ripoff of the Death of Captain America. is there no originality at DC?

Nasty SPOILERS!

Sonja died killing Kulan Gath (and we still don't know if it was permanent), apparently she's the only one that can kill him because apparently she was made of his blood by the Goddess Sonja revered so much in a crazy twisted plot of revenge. Pretty farked up stuff man! So the last panel in the latest issue was Sonja meeting-up with the guy who carries people across the River Styx!

I liked that assassin chick that was in Conan a few issues back, she'd make a sweet figure @_@

Also, what happened in Cap? @_@

WTF?! are they cancelling Red Sonja?

no, from what I've read it seems that Dark Horse will continue the continuity for Conan in the new series - Conan the Cimmerian - which just doesn't make sense - why not rename the current comic and keep going? from what I saw on the Conan boards at DH I assume that they are going to pick up the pace a bit in the plots - make it a little more like the REH & Marvel stories - not so much character analysis like Busiek was doing. apparently I'm not the only reader that thought the current Conan was a tad slow in it's pace.

I just hope that Giorello keeps doing the art! the art is great in the past 2 issues. and I agree - nothing boring in this issue. much hacking and slaying - the battle scenes are great. and yeah that monster from the Outer Void is very Lovecraftian. I'm trying to figure out what's up with Conan's buddy coming back from the dead as a zombie.

Conan and Capt. America were def my 2 most faves this week.

Yessss, pretty cool, no boring parts at all in this issue, and that monster at the end of the book!? WTF!? xD I'm dying to see how Conan kills it, if he can kill it at all! Sonja just SPOLIER! died in her series so maybe we'll see something similar here.
