Posted in Off Topic

I'm looking for some new reads and it seems like book stores all sell the same stuff and my lcs employs teen girls who are no help...I dig Frank Miller, Grant Morrison, Alan Moore, Neal Gaiman, most Batman, Green Lantern, and Horror stuff but am open to broadening my horizons...any help?

Freak Angels by Warren Ellis, plus it's free to read on the internet http://www.freakangels.com.

Though there are some boring parts the writing is pretty solid.

Marvel's Civil war storyline. Its huge, 1.46 gig in comic image files, but some of the art is really good.

For something different, try the "Slaine: The Horned God" by Pat Mills and Simon Bisley (this is hard to find), or "Bloodstar" by Richard Corben (also hard to find). The recent "Joker" graphic novel (forgot who wrote it or drew it) was kind of a refreshing departure from the standard run-of-the-mill comic book art and the story was entertaining. "Daredevil: Guardian Devil" by Kevin Smith and Joe Quesada is very well done as well.

Recommended Green Lantern:
-Green Lantern: Emerald Dawn - The modern origin of Hal Jordan, the main Green Lantern.
-Green Lantern: Emerald Twilight - The downfall of Hal Jordan and his rise to power as the evil Parallax. The GL Corps and Guardians of the Universe are Destroyed, Kilowog dies, Sinestro dies, Kyle Rayner recieves the last GL Ring in the Universe.
-Green Lantern: Rebirth - Hal Jordan's return as a Green Lantern and his struggle to free himself of Parallax and Spectre. Sinestro also makes an appearance and all the GLs have a time in the spotlight.
-Green Lantern: Sinestro Corps War - The most action pack and well executed "event" I have ever read. If this doesn't get you're heart pumping, then you don't have a pulse.

Recommended Grant Morrison:
-JLA: New World Order - The opening storyarc on Morrison's legendary run of JLA. The White Martians invade Earth but are received as heroes by the populace and it's up to the JLA to stop them.
-JLA: Rock of Ages - This is the ultimate JLA story, IMO. It has an epic story, grand villains, Darkseid, and an alternate reality.
-JLA: Crisis Times Five - Morrison's JLA teams up with the newly reformed JSA in one of the greatest crossovers between the two teams.
-New X-Men: Planet X - The most "realistic" take on the X-Men I have ever read. Magneto successfully infiltrates the X-Men team as a mutant known as Xion.
-X-Men: Here Comes Tomorrow - Awesome alternate universe story in the tradition of Age of Apocalypse.

if you like green lantern, there is some great stuff on him by Geoff Johns... like revenge of the green lanterns, hal jordan: wanted, green lantern: no fear, and of course, the sinestro corps war... and I'd recommend maybe all-star superman, by Grant Morrison and Frank Quietly, or new x-men by the same creative team... and all-star batman and robin the boy wonder by Frank Miller and Jim Lee.

If you like transformers I'd say go for the IDW/dreamwave stuff as they even reissued the old marvel stuff in TPB. I'm trying to get them as PDF files to read while traveling.
