MOC OR NOT TO MOC your opinions please

Posted in Action Figure Chatter

ok so I have not opened any of the new figures I have bought recently within the last month or two
mainly because of the moving. but I can't decide if I want to open the mls and other figures and display them or keep them moc and hang them on the wall. there are good arguments for both sides and I keep going over them in my head and still nothing
is there enough shelf space ?
will I regret after opening them?
they would be so much cooler if I opened them
but the value will drop
what would you do

over what though? A single figure or like a vehicle? if its a vehicle then I can understand that like the ATTE legs or something. But with $7 figures...just get another at the store. It's not worth waiting for it to come in the mail.

Both mattel, and Hasbro have refunded me without me halving to nag them.

No the companies almost NEVER refund you unless you really persue the issue, and certainly not with exclusives. If I pose my figures once and put them in my display or simply enjoying owning them and looking at them that's having fun with them to me. I don't play with them or do any thing radical

Whats the point of having figures if you can't have fun with them? Rarely do figures brake and most companies will refund you in some way.

know what my main concern is with keeping figures carded? It's not even a value issue with me. It's the replaceability/breakability issue. If you open a figure, you run the risk of quality problems. Simple as that. The more exclusive the figure, even though I don't plan on selling, the harder and more expensive it is to rebuy if its messed up

If these are figures that you never plan on selling than I say screw the drop in value and open them and have fun!

I keep them MOC. But I'm a comic fan first, and an action figure collector second. I only get the figures to complement my comic collection. I don't play with them, just display them.

Sorry mate totally mis read your post, funny story really, I thought you'd written modern LIFE, haha .

*EDIT* It's true, modern starwars is worthless because there's just so much of it, did I hear someone say cash in?

I'd look at it the same way I look at a comic book. Sure you can keep in mint in package in the hopes that someday it might be worth something, but if you do, you should probably purchase a second to open and enjoy. Comic Books are meant to be read. What are toys meant for?

yeah like I said...MODERN star wars is worthless. Don't open vintage SW.

Hasbro MLs are all worthless so you did a good thing opening the blob series. (Crossbones is the only one worth bank). The Series 1 Cap looks pretty nice MOC so you're off to a good start

Some starwars just have to stay MOC, if you've got vintage the price will just rise and rise, they're so not worthless.

All other newer stuff I say open it action figures are meant to be played with after all!!!!!

Star wars is pointless to keep MOC because 99% of it is worthless in the modern line. If it's star wars, open them and enjoy them. ML really presents a quandry though. I mean to each their own, but ML figures are DESIGNED to be posed because of the extreme amount of articulation. It's not like the packages are terribly flashy but they do have a certain quality to them (the toybiz ones at least). The way I did it is I opened all toybiz and hasbro MLs except variants. You can't really appreciate them MOC. For any line, I keep exceptionally rare figures and exclusives MOC

I have two collections.

Star wars and everything else.

The star wars collection I keep moc. The other collection I display loose.

I get a hundred more times plesure out of my loose collection than my moc star wars figures. I like playing with the figures and posing them and picking them up and handling them. The star wars stuff just sits on my wall boring as heck with me afraid to touch it due to damaging it.

I say free them from their plastic coffins and let them breathe.

Personally I keep em on the card for several reasons.
1. They are much more valuable MOC
2. I really enjoy the art that goes into most of the packaging.
3. I look forward to the day when I can pass these down to my kids when they are older.

That isn't to say I don't like loose figures for display, I have plenty of those as well but I usually buy them loose as its generally cheaper
