WAKE UP MARVEL!!!!

Posted in Off Topic

I simply do not understand what is going on over at the Marvel camp....I mean, are they purposely trying to sink their own ship?? It seems that they have totally lost touch with their comic fans and just stop giving a hoot about making good books. To wit:

They have so many stupid versions going on that it is just getting impossible to follow....DC did the same thing before with the multiple Earths and I think its safe to say that it all that it produced was multiple headaches. The only explanation that I can come up with is that Marvel is just too cocky or too stupid to figure out that nine versions of wolverine is just not the answer.

Also what were they smoking when they decided to make spider-man afro/mexican???? Are they that LAZY and UNTALENTED to create a NEW character that would appeal to millions?Instead someone decided that it would be a fantastic idea of handing down a well known character and changing his race to appease two of their demographics?

Lastly the X-men....Has anyone else noticed that X books have become so cheesy and predictable as of late? "Schism" promised to bring such intense drama to our fave mutants with talks of intense twists and a roller coaster ride of emotions...Sadly all it was just a reason to give Wolverine a reason to run a school. The writers didn't even try! I mean if you really look at it, the reason the entire mutant race was split in two was because Cyclops and Logan wanted to prove that Jean loved one more than the other. This leads to the story being sooo predictable, because I can guarantee anyone out there that when Jean comes back from this whole Avengers vs X-men thing she will , without a shadow of a doubt, be with wolverine. Oh and one more thing...why is there an abundance of female mutants??? Has anyone noticed this??It seems that every month theres a new prepubescent girl discovering that she has an x gene...what is this all about?

Your so odd. I never said he was better I said you were using sales numbers to say DC was better then Marvel. I pointed out that you can't simply use sales because Justin Beiber outsells millions of people and that does not mean hes better.

You don't have to worry about me and therapist. as far as I can recall weve been at each others throats since the beginning. its like having a cocky pet, it really makes you feel better that there are people out there with insufficient brain cells and still think that they are better than anyone.this is by the way just my opinion. but in all fairness he does know a lot when it comes to comic books. I guess you can say we are at opposite ends of the spectrum, and behind every jab and name calling there is respect(at least from me). so you are right that we all share common ground. and I guess you are right with the company as well.its just hard for me to accept this.

again I fail to see the logic of your reasoning...I guess it goes well with the massive ego... did you not just say I had a huge problem with race? how is that not trying to guess what another person was thinking?but of course you with all your self proclaimed glory and asinine reasons would only come up with a statement.

I'm not surprised you failed to see my reasoning.

ANNNNNNYWHO on topic to all those who have not sworn GI Joe Arishakage style vendetta on me. I think no matter what we would never be happy. No matter what they produced some group or some people would hate it. If Fury was never turned black wed have groups complaining about racism. Jubilee turned Vamp there would be people pissing and moaning that its boring cuz everything stays the same. If there was never a RULK people would throw piss fits that Hulks legacy needs expansion. Sadly we are the group who hates what we are currently getting and sadly for us what we are getting now seems to be whats going to stick

P.S Pancho buddy try typing s u c k s (all together as I know sometimes you have problems getting stuff) in and see what the filters change it too. Easy enough to figure out if we just stay calm and don't fly off the handle. It was a filter to keep people from saying things like "hey this custom s u c k s"

whoa whoa whoa...lets all cool down here for a bit. I've read the previous posts and I really don't want anyone starting an argument here. of course im not.I don't think any self respecting comic reader would be ok with this.but what can we do? even if we pull a million marvel comic subscribers, it won't stop the company.like I said before, their entire comic book department can go up in flames(knock on wood, don't want anyone losing their jobs or getting hurt) and they would still make profit.I know miles hernadez sucks, or the fact that jubilee is a vampire or anything that you said.I agree with everything cept for "fury" ( I even said that jackson should have been washington)there is nothing we can all do.

Well I guess HONOR/CREATIVITY is something that you would lack... everyone has their flaws I guess. The only thing Im really having a hard time to figure out is your sense of logic, saying that cap had tv movies as well kinda puts him in the same league as fury, don't you think? the answer by the way is "yes".

The reason I brought up Caps movie was because you pointed out Furys movie like it was some end all beat all point where cap has had his cartoons and a movie. Heck Howard the duck, Fantastic four, and Punisher all had movies while we are at it. Of course there was also the Incredible hulk had a tv series as well

You're ok with this? Do we just stand here and accept whatever garbage they peddle? you said so yourself that miles morales was a bad concept. where does it end? I get that their movies and other products brings them lots of money, but what do you think would happen when non-comic fans get tired of comic movies?marvel comics have been around for a good 70 odd years, comic movies have only been really popular for 12 years.how much longer before it collapses?
Same can be said for anything my friend. The "perceived angry comic nerd" is a major factor of why comics had so many problems breaking in to the main stream to begin with. Also the few "comic" fans that are left of us won't make them change their mind by us boycotting, that will just push them further to push the product for the masses. Heck check my post you will see that I even said I HATE what comic con has become but at the same time I realize that boycotting won't make them stop. It will just make me miss the characters I enjoy.

I think fury was as popular.
You'll see race is a VERY big issue to pancho here and your right. No matter what anyone says, does or thinks Marvel will continue to rake in money by the truckloads. Comics as we knew them are dead and yet they are just as profitable if not more then ever. Seems you were right when you said Marvel already woke up.

well there was a nick fury tv movie with david hasselhoff.cap/iron-man/thor were not selling so well as with their respective books. so my opinion is based on fact, unless youre talking about the big three having their own cartoon series.I would say all four of them were equally popular in the comic book world previous from the movies. what were you "thinking" when you gave your assessment then? wasn't adding john stewart to the jla an example of adding mixture to the all white jla? (with the exception of martian manhunter)? what is it that youre trying to say?how much did marvel really get for turning fury black? the way I see it, the only reward they got was that they could call the avengers a diverse team.I don't see the honor/creativity in that.
Cap had a TV movie as well. My assessment, as you are having such a hard time figuring out was WHY WOULD THEY CHOOSE NICK FURY OVER ANOTHER CHARACTER TO TURN BLACK. I don't think Marvel nor any other major company give a cats meow about other peoples opinions of honor/creativity when the profit speaks for itself and at the end of the day the profit is most all companies bottom line.

Not sure bout in avengers academy but I think there is a white black panther in ultimates

wait a minute, Thor was black?? or what ever the spanish translation of dare is. don't we already have a "white" black panter? isnt she part of the avengers academy?

The popularity of the three was just as same as fury, they only made a name for themselves when the movies came out. there were even rumors that will smith was suppose to play captain america. What im trying to say is that it was unnecessary. It goes back to my point of creating original characters.changing race is just not my cup of tea.as for RISK/REWARD assessment, they could have easily come up with those excuses for cap/iron-man/thor. if anything I BELIEVE that fury was changed so that the avengers could have a little bit of mixture, its like what happened with the jla...they added cyborg so that its not an all "white" team.

...You really think that fury was as popular as those three? EVen pre movies he wasn't but I suppose with some people opinion>fact. But I was just explaining why Fury was chosen over cap or iron man. Not why ANYONE was chosen. That is likely the same reason John Stewart was added to JLU over Hal Jordan or Kyle Rayner. Even though thats not what I was talking about when I gave you the risk vs reward assessment

There is an option on top of the message box that says "quote", it's right next to "code". you just copy whatever you want and paste it in between quote.

I get that, but nick fury was also known to be white.I guess what im trying to say is that why did they do that? why pick fury? not cap?thor? or iron man?yes, I get that they are making great movies, but how long do you really think this is going to last? teenage mutant ninja turtles was big in the 90's...now theyre just a memory. I get big industries...I know that "profit" is what makes the wheels turn. Im just asking them to not forget what made them big in the first place.

Well I was not in the board room when the decision came down the pipe to turn Nick Black but from a simple business view it makes sense to turn Nick black. Its called risk vs reward. You RISK that by turning a character black (or any new/different race) that it can be a complete and utter failure of colossal proportion thus you don't take such a risk on a flagship character like Iron Man, Captain America, or Thor (can you imagine if Thor was black? remember the heimdell fiasco?) but the REWARD is this race change making the character more popular thus bringing you more money. To maximize your reward you have to use a character who isn't just some no name obscure character like Rtphoid Mary or Armadillo, you have to choose a character who already had some pull & popularity that will get people talking like "Whoa nick fury is black?" "Black Panther is white?" "Daredevil is mexican?" "Dr. Strange is Cambodian?" so you draw attention to your new potential money maker. Nick Fury fits this criteria very very well

Another potential reason is possibly that if it was met with absurd backlash then being Nick Fury they could turn him back White and write it up as LMD, disguise, or any number of things

Thanks for theaching me how to "quote" pancho. I think you are missing the point, if I may be so bold to say, marvel is so big now that they can get away with anything.also it is not something they did recently, black fury has been around since the birth of ultimate universe, which was actually the time that marvel movies were starting.it really sadens me to tell you this but, comic industry is turning into a fleeting memory. we are a dying breed.don't get me wrong, I totally agree with whatever was said in this post, cept for blavk fury,im not trying to be argumentative. I jst think that marvel is too big for bad comic book writing now.

How do you guys add on whatever the other person said? but to answer the question putting someone else entirely new would be harder to sell than changing his/her skin color. sure you can put blade, or whoever you want, heck they could have made tinkerbell as the director of shield, however the back story would also have to be changed. nick fury is known to be the director of shield( which I personally think should have been played by denzel!)

How about other black characters taking the role as director of shield? I mean why change someone's skin color just to add a bit of mixture. I get what youre saying about the company as a whole is doing great, but if the bad stories keep pouring the company as a whole will go under. No more movies, no more action figures, no more cartoons...
Correct me if I am wrong but hasn't Ultimate Nick Fury been Black since the beginning? So that's not really Changing his race seeing as he isn't the same as the 616 counterpart (who is still white as far as I know). I think the reason they may have did it was because to most people Nick Fury IS the director of shield just randomly having someone else (except possibly Gabe Jones) would be kind of annoying. Reports show most people, especially casual fans, LOVE black Nick Fury AKA Samual Jacksons Nick Fury and the character has gained them a large sum of money.

Gotta agree with Jes. When the movies are making them Millions (if not billions) then they can keep printing whatever hey like. Truth be told a very large number of people who went to see Avengers have never picked up a comic book in their life. They just know these characters because they are pop culture icons, their films, their TV shows, and other marketing. They don't too much have to worry about comic sales as hardcore fans will have no choice, kids will buy anything and everything, and as DCs sales have shown us bringing in new casual fans can be an amazing untapped money making scheme. DC made their brand sell better by making it more accessible to the drones and mindless masses. Nintendo did the same thing with its Wii gaming system now Marvel will tap those pop culture junkies by bringing in hoards using their movies.

I do agree that the books that marvel is producing as of late is not as good as what they were doing in the late 90's. Just to be fair, Marvel is just killing it with their movies.Avengers made $200 million in 3 days, printing out good stories is the least of their concerns. I also agree that passing down legacy is a cheap gimmick, Miles Hernandez is a bad concept not because of his skin color, its because its just bad."Black Fury" I think it's all right, it gives the avengers a bit of mixture racially. So as long as Marvel is making millions from their movies you can expect sub par stories like "schism" and "avengers vs. x-men".

The Walking Dead
The Boys
Uncanny X-force
Daredevil
Venom
Secret Avengers

and thats all I have been getting every month but it all really depends on what you are in too. If you like X related stuff then I would also suggest X-men Legacy, Wolverine and the X-men, & Uncanny X-force. If you go any questions concerning different titles feel free to PM me I read over 100 titles a month ...sometimes around that many in one week

The last that I read and enjoyed was Nation X, and I always prefer X related stuff but am open to pretty much anything.
