So I am sitting here and allowing my mind to wander and thinking about old video games and systems I used to love. I really miss my nintendo 64 and especially pokemon snap and star wars podracer.
I liked some of the star wars games for flight simulators myself. did your version allow you to put the hamster in the microwave? thought it was interesting that some of the characters would and some would not, very pioneering for the new good/evil upgrade system imo. I still can't help but play pac man and galaga, those are some of my favs and remember playing MK all day long just to play pong. How come there are no more games that have the smash breaks like street fighter and MK, I loved breaking diamond, only time I ever got blisters playing.
X-Wing. Best space flight simulator I have every played and it's a shame it hasn't been remade for the next gen systems. I'm just very happy to see something like Monkey Island back again! And yes, Maniac Mansion was awesome!
I miss maniac mansion if anyone remembers that game, loved multiple ending games and the GI Joe games for nes. man totally agreed on all these accounts, I loved playing the final fantasy IV the after years for wii (a continuation, future version of FFIV). New games are easier and and give us some fun, but love playing super smash bros & brawl for the old school feel. I am a RPGer, but play the old games and a few new things (Final Fantasty up to 7, Chrono Trigger, Phantasy Star still waiting to play 4, Super Metroid, etc). Legend of Zelda never gets old any of them on a major platorm, not handheld & Majora's Mask (never played it). Probably other than these Tenchu was a cool concept, but never played past the 1st game. I hope that one day they will release Valkyrie Profile Lenneth for the PS3 as a download, my favorite game and can only play it on PSP, replaced chrono trigger. And why can't kid icarus get a game? He is in Smash Bros and yet only a game for the DS, blows my mind. Love Mortal Kombat, Marvel vs Capcom, old school side scroll fighting games final fight, double dragon, x-men, spiderman, avengers, tmnt/tmnt turtles in time, battletoads, contra/super c. would rather play them, than some of these new ones, the older games might be cheap and seem to cheat at times, yet it is more satisfying to kick their butts. Who hasn't played one of these games and say I hit you what the @%$#? Wish they would just make it able to download titles for all systems, just certain systems with rights could charge less or offer extra. I don't like the fact that you don't have access to the library of all the systems, they made the game, why not let us have access to it. And while they are at it make attachments to use the old controller, if you have it. I have my original nintendo still and can take it out anytime and play it.
I think another part of the challenge was the technical limits of the systems too, half the time you'd get a glitch or something and the games were harder because ofhow they were made. Now you have everyone buying the rights to use a handful of game engines unlike back then when they had to make their own.
Not to mention that back in the day it took skill to beat a game. Like serious skill. Beating a game back then was a big deal. now all it takes to beat a game is time. The challenge is gone, so the entire experience just isn't as rewarding. Sure it looks pretty, but they lost a lot of the fun factor while they were busy worry about the graphics.
I never got over nintendo NES or Sega! New games just aren't challenging! I love the graphics but they're just not as fun for me. I wish I still had an Atari. I could challenge my friends to maze for hours and not be bored. Nowadays you play against people you don't know and need seven different controllers that do the same thing we used to do with one! You could know all the tricks in the classics and they still presented a challenge.. Seems like I can beat a new game and not even know it until the credits role leaving me with a sour taste in my mouth and wondering what happened to the next level!
I miss old school RPG's. Some of my old favorites are Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger and Secret of Evermore. They just don't make em like that anymore.
Yeah thats possible but sadly playing it on the wii just isnt the same as playing on the 64. I think I might go through my closet see if I can't find my 64 and games.
Maybe they'll eventually come out for the wii via the nintendo store. I know I'm getting a wii for the 8 and 16 bit games and the later systems as they release them. I miss the Phantasy star games back before these new turds. I miss the quality Final fantasy games, the quality (ps1) front mission games. I miss games that had more storyline than graphics.
