Chakan: The Forever Man animated bestiary (Game Gear)

Posted in Off Topic

Here's another video game bestiary I recently completed: Chakan: The Forever Man for the Sega Game Gear (there's a Sega Genesis version as well, which people are probably more familiar with, but the Game Gear version is the one I most identify with, as I owned that first.) Chakan is a comic book character, created by Robert Kraus, who gained immortality after beating Death in a one-on-one duel. Of course, Death doesn't play fair, so he made his eternal life a living hell.

Even if you use the Game Genie invincibility code, the Sega Genesis version of Chakan is STILL a hard game to finish, and that's saying something. I don't think that there's a lot of people that have actually completed the Genesis version without cheating, although I know it can be done (just not by me ). I've beaten the Game Gear version without cheating, but that's shorter and easier to begin with.

Incidentally, the Game Gear Chakan death scream is completely different than the Genesis one. And, for reasons I cannot fathom (extra memory and nothing to do with it?), the title screen actually says "Chakan: The Forever Man" in digitized speech.

Oh man, even though this thread is a few months old as soon as I read the title I heard the scream soundbite that played whenever you lost a live. Immortal my foot I was terrible at this game.

I'd like to see a better version of Ex-Mutants. I'd love to see one cover all the different versions of that comic went thru with each company.

Yeah, I hear you. Chakan, X-men 2: in Clone Wars, the various Spider-Man games, and Comix Zone were particularly good. Comix Zone, even though it featured a generic hero, rather than an existing one, was a mighty creative Genesis comic book game. Literally fighting across comic pages, from panel-to-panel, was pretty unique. It'd be cool to see someone take that concept and run with it with a Marvel, DC, or Independent character(s).

I'm amazed the rights to make a new one haven't been picked up by someone. There's a few genesis comic games I'd love updated.

That's neat that you got be meet Robert Kraus. There was going to be a Dreamcast Chakan game too, but that got cancelled--impossible to say what the game would have been like, but the concept art was cool.

I met the creator of the comic book series it's based on back in the 90s in Pittsburgh, he was pretty cool. I never got to play the game though.

will check it out, the premise sounds awesome. there are 2 different entities that don't play fair, death and the devil.
