anti figure collecting

Posted in Off Topic

Have any of you found people making fun of the hobby of collecting/customizing yet they think its fine to collect baseball cards and such? It annoys the $$$$ outta me. A friend's ex recently attacked the hobby, and me for being disabled which he thinks I'm just fat and lazy, anyhow have any of you found that problem?

I hear that. especially since I'm pretty young... odds are if I quit collecting comics and action figures now, I'll probably just pick 'em up again when I'm older.

I get some of this from my family. "Stop collecting, focus on school" "Save money"

Everytime I go to Walmart, they imeadiately think I go straight to the toy aisles. The heck, I collect anytime I want, maknig me stop now will only make me waste more money in the future collecting figures I couldn't now.

most of my friends know too. I don't know what annoys me more him attacking the hobby or using it as one against me.

I talk openly about my action figure collection.

Never had a problem.

But I do enjoy some of the hilarious looks the cashiers at retail stores like wal-mart, zellers and TRU when I tell them in great detail about te figure I just bought and a brief bio about the charater.

I used to get unholy hell about my comics in highschool, from the people collecting sport related things (made it okay I guess). finally I stopped talking about it.

hmf, well yeah, what the other guys said- just ignore him.

I have to admit though... I sometimes try to keep my toy collection on the down-low. but really, I'm not afraid anyone's gonna find out about my collections, and call me a geek or nerd or something. I go to a private school anyways, and I gotta say, not many people there are in the position to talk sh!t about me, when most of the kids in my class don't even know what, like, a gstring is. it's surprising, however, that people can be fine with me owning 800+ comics, but that I have like, 40 action figures that I pose and stuff is just weird... I wanna start telling people though. I mean I talk about comics all the time with everyone around, I wanna be able to do that about my action figures.

I've heard that too, usually my response goes like this:

If I like them-"Pft, I'll never grow up...LOOK, THERES A SALE ON ML'S!!!"

If I don't-"And turn into someone as boring as you? I'll stick with staying childish"

'Sides, most people close enough to me know what my personality is like so it doesn't suprise/bother them much when I have to go to the toy aisle everytime we go to a store

That guy I just no good punk!!!

Also attacking you for disablites is just plain low mean and being a general asshat

The guy is a plain loser.

Why should he care whither you buy toys? It's better than buying drugs or drinking yourself stupid at the bar every night.

I have never had problems with people not liking my collection. If there has a been a person who didn't like it they have been quiet.

I wish people adopted a "if it doesn't affect me I don't care policy" with stuff like this.

I'd just ingore him he's a fool.

actually my family and friends aren't bad about it. My one friend collected starwars for years. My family just doesn't want the collection to take over the house as its about ready to break free of my room. THough it is mostly cheaper than my sword collecting lol.

This guy is probably just insecure with himself. The lone figure in his collection is probably very small, and I bet he plays with it all the time...

that's my opinion too. he basically insulted everyone who collects even sports figures down to model kits so he insulted a good portion of america in one way or another.

Hey, there's nothing wrong with being a nerd or a geek, I consider myself one (geek, I'm not smart enough to be a nerd lol). It just means that we have something the people that call us those names as insults don't have and they're jealous.
Ok maybe not jealous, but its a hobby, keeps us (mostly) sane. Collecting gives people something to look forward to and something occupy our downtime. Some people collect coins, or clocks, or stamps or cars. I chose to start collecting action figures because A) I wanted to be able look up at a shelf and see my favorite heroes in 3 dimensions and B) Action figures today tend to be cooler than what I had when I was a kid.
If people can't understand it, f**k 'em

It just annoys me that they make fun of a hobby. Hobbies are meant to be pointless. If we got all the toy collectors (and old games and such and even model builders) together we'd have a small army. He's just a college punk who thinks if it doesn't involve rap or clubbing its not worth while.

Slap the taste outta there mouth right no.lol, but no look at it like this . There are man ways around this such as for many customizers we make money off commissions and stuff I know I make a lot off customs lol. Or if this isn't the case for you use logic against them the reason they have turned action figures into something negative is because their parents couldn't afford or just didn't care about them enough to get them any as children so they make this seem okay by saying that its bad/nerdy to own them thats why they never had any,so long story short to cope with the fact of never owning them for whatever reason they make it seem as though as its something negative.(I'm not sure if this makes sense to anyone but me). But I have dealt with a lot of hecklers this way . And heck its better then us spending money on stuff like cigarettes because then were not only spending copious amounts of cash but we would also be killing ourselves .
