The WonderCon Experience
Posted in
Off TopicI have finally experienced a comic convention, and it was great! It was HUGE! There were aisles and aisles of sellers, company booths, indy booths, artists and writers, celebrities, and tons of special presentations and panels with various actors writers & celebrities. I got TONS of freebies. I got a bunch of signatures and too and got to meet guys like Ed Brubaker, Matt Fraction, Roy Thomas, Jim Lee, and others. I also got a few good deals and other goodies. I saw the Wonder Woman Animated DVD (FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC! And I don't read Wonder Woman, never have! EVERYONE MUST AT LEAST RENT IT!) and I saw a costume contest and exclusive movie trailers. There were some bad costumes, and some really, really good ones. There was this group that did the 80s GI Joes. Snake Eyes vs. Cobra Commander, Destro and other Cobras. There was also this Predator that was amazingly good, guy should have been in Hollywood. Another guy did Godzilla perfectly and did his little bit to the Go Go Godzilla song, classic!
As great as that all was, there were a few small gripes I had. Nothing big though, and I still go back without a doubt. Anways, there were just too many damn people. You had to squeeze through the crowd to get anywhere on the main floor. Friday wasn't so bad, but Saturday and Sunday was insane! Also, big fat sweaty stinky guys. They seemed to stand next to ME in line, or sit next to ME in panel discussions. I also missed the Star Trek exclusive panel. ME, I MISSED IT! I've been a Trekkie since I was 6. Sadly, there just wasn't enough room. And my biggest compaint was parking. It was insane. I stayed with a friend that lived down there, so I had to pay for parking at the convention, then again at her house. $50 a day! Parking lots just don't exist in San Francisco! It's maddening!
