World Champions?

Posted in Off Topic

I would like to start this rant with an apology if I offend any sports fan>

Ah to be the world champion thats the hopes and dreams of any body that plays pro sports or any sport, to be the best in the world. Thats well and good but there one problem with that. . . .YOU HAVE TO PLAY THE WORLD TO BE WORLD CHAMPION!

As you prob all know I work for the NFLs "WORLD" Champion Steelers and this is where this stems from. I am so tired of hearing we are the world Champions, when you are clearly NOT! To be a world champion you have to play against other teams globally not in your own country, then claim to be the Champion of the World. Not only are we selling T Shirts with "WORLD" champions on it but it has gotten as far as shirts with CAPITOL OF THE WORLD!

yes CAPITOL of the WORLD! Since when did I start working for Cobra or when did Dr Doom by the team? If all it took for global domination was to buy a pro sports team then why do people even bother with wars? I'm sorry but I never kne that playing football made you the worlds capitol! This really infuryated me as it just says that I canplay a sport thus making me own you.

Back on topic of being world champions:
We state to be WORLD champions and yet the NFL is not open to any country but the US. Thats like me holding a Street Fighter Tournament in my neighborhood then claiming I ma the world champion if I win. Even 1 other country was open to play in the NFL could we be called world champion thus Baseball, and Hockey can legitimatly claim this. (but even so it still would be between US & Canada)

In my eyes the only people that can claim to be a world champion is Olympic Athletes. These guys face off against the whole world and rightfully can were the mantle of World Champ. The Olypics are open to all countries (unless they have been very naughty in domestic relations) thus making it fair for all to claim that title unlike the Super Bowl winner.

In closing what I want to say is don't call your self a WORLD champion unless you play against the world. You should have no right to give yourself that title unless you open your private little club to the rest of the WORLD!

I know a few Steelers do a lot for the community like Hines Ward but then you have Rothlesburger. Instead of giving the cash to people who needs it he buys attack dogs for police departments of all things. I mean its great you like animals but my ex volunteers with a shelter in pittsburgh that needs donations and there are a bunch of wildlife groups that need money. Apparently kissing up to the cops is better PR (especially with his driving record). We have a sports bar here but you don't dare go near it during most seasons as its full of loudmouths who argue over batting averages and such. Its no wonder these teams are like this, they're beign worshipped.

I agree with seph here live in our area for a week and you'll see that they pull a tie for arrogance. Even more so if you meet some of the players.

I don't know. The steelers are pretty damned arrogant. The entire week after the superbowl it was nothing but stink'n steelers crap on the Pittsburgh stations. Parades, interviews, and last week it was teh release of the blasted dvd of the superbowl >.< they rented a theater to show the thing. And people wonder why I hate sports.

You mean like the Dallas Cowboys call themselves "America's Team"?

*Smacks the Cowboys*

-Every- team in the NFL is American. Sorry to any Cowboys fans out there, but that's a major reason why I could never stand that team and their attitude. The most arrogant team in the NFL.

never figured the boxing weight system out. Heavy weight sounds like a couple of sumo wrestlers going into the ring lol.

Its just like the World Series in Baseball, unless I am mistaken its only open to the MLB and American League. Baseball is played all over the world, Japan has some pretty good teams if I remember right. I think it is just an American thing, we tend to forget that the sports we like to play/invented are played in other countries too and we go around claiming that we are the world champions. (I think titles like World Heavy Weight Champion are exclusive to the States too, at least it meant something when boxing was real lol)

lol. These are teh same people who think the world revolves around sports and insist on cutting funding to public schools to keep the school's sports teams. they're the people who paint their van black and gold (yes we have steelers fans like that here).
