Never had the chance to get to the theater, but I bought it last week on DVD. I read the graphic novel last year when I knew the movie was coming out, so I already knew the story. I must say that Snyder was very, very, very faithful to the graphic novel. Other than being a little bit long and dragging just a bit at certain spots (I felt the graphic novel did the same), I thought the movie was awesome! The special effects were outrageous and the fight scenes were very brutal. I thought the acting performances were great too, especially the Comedian and Rorschack. I didn't mind that the "Tales of the Black Freighter" were left out, I really felt like it would not have added much to the overall story anyways. Besides, an extended version will be released in a couple of months that includes it. As far as the musical score, for the most part, I thought it was pretty cool. "Ride of the Valkyries" was an obvious tip of the hat to "Apocalypse Now" so I don't feel it was out of place. But the music that was playing when NiteOwl and the Silk Spectre had their sex scene was bad enough to spoil the mood for anyone. I thought Richard Nixon's prosthetic make-up was poorly done, it didn't really look like him so much as it resembled a cartoon parody of him, plus it was painfully-obviously fake. Snyder really nailed the visual look of this film though, I was expecting the cartoonish color-saturated visuals of 300, but I was pleasantly surprized with the approach he took. Overall, I would say that the "Watchmen" is just as good or even better than "The Dark Knight".

The JFK thing was hinted at...They simply mention at one point in the book that Comedian and Nixon were in Dallas on the day JFK was assassinated...

Well I'm gonna be the Debbi downer here and say I wasn't that impressed. I went in never reading the book but knowing of it and I came away with MEH. At no point did the movie engross me and make me want MORE. I just sat thru it and almost fell asleep at soe points due to the lack of excitement. Overall I feel that the movie was very lackluster.

The shining point of the movie however was Rorshach. His sceens I did care about all to see him go boom at the end

I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVED this movie As good if not better that the Dark Knight.

WARNING (POSSIBLE) SPOILERS

Though I have not read the Book, I can say seeing it in film form is the best way to go in my opinion. Things are explained more easily, fight scenes are extended, and the visuals are just as spot on with Dave Gibbon's artwork.
so:

Positives (+):

1. One word: RORSCHACH , he is flawless is this movie bless Jackie earl Haley's soul he made the character more of an engrossing character and one you don't want to see fade away (but we all know he couldn't have survived.

2. The first 10 minutes: HOLY CRAP! what a great beginning it yanks you straight into the story. (and thanks to Bob Dylan) Also it gives you a feel on who the minutemen where and what happened to them in the later years.

3. DR. MANHATTAN: Next to rorschach perhaps the best performance of the film had to be hands down Dr. Manhattan. His origin, Struggles, and realization on how he is ever closer to becoming more out of link with humanity.

4. The fight scenes: Each character (except for a certain blue super-being) got some fisticuffs action with against a huge wave of enemy's, (which I did not expect).

5. VISUAL EFFECTS!!!!!!!!!: damn where there some kick-a** special effects in this movie. Everything from Rorschach mask, to Mars (which made me Cry and say "man how do they do this",) the even explosions were sophisticated by how good the special effects were.

6. Character Balance: I loved how each member had there own significant background story (except for ozymandis) that explained things without confusing you.

however there where some unfortunate complaints...

Negatives (-):

1. The Sex scenes: God were these scenes so unnecessary, we could actually have a interesting short back-story for Ozymandis or another character but Nooo we had to endure 4 minutes of Nite-owl, and Silk Spectare make Whoopee. Zach seriously (''

2. Unnecessary Violence: Perhaps the biggest downfall of the film. A Great example is the dog/murderer scene, and street fight scene. the Dog/Murderer scene made me uncomfortable. I don't enjoy have someone getting stabbed in the head with a meat cleaver, or having a dog get the same treatment, or seeing a mans bone being shown to us after having it broken.

But overall I FREAKING WATCHED WATCHMEN, AND FREAKIN LOOOOOOVED IT..

4 out of 4
5/5
93% out of 100

ANYONE WHO HAS A LIFE (and over 15) MUST SEE THIS MOVIE IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought it was good. The main things I noticed missing other than what was already said were the death of a certain character and the police suspecting Dan of being NiteOwl.

Also, I can't remember, was the JFK assassination thing in the book?

It was EXCELLENT. Probably the best screen adaptation of a comic. @2:45 long (more or less) it captured every important detail while yes stretching some unecessary ones and shortening others(Silk/Owl sex scene and Rorshach's origin) The slo-mo violence kinda numbs u by the time we get 2 Rorshach's origin- whose origin is soo crazy you're left speechless!

I have tiny, small, reservations about the movie but all in all this movie rocked. The things omiited from the film Nite Owl's book,(which the better details are covered in the credits) the human characters left out, and the exclusion of the pirate book were not essential to the story per se so- SWEETNESS SQUARED 2 THUMBS UP!

The musical score was bad. Ride of the Valkyaries during Dr. Manhattan's Vietnam scene was out of place, the Comedian's funeral would have been better without music. Also, the sex scene between Nite Owl and Silk Spectre was just hilariously bad when you threw in the music playing durning it and didn't need to be so dang long. They had to cut a lot of footage from the film but it was okay to leave in a nine minute sex scene that didn't really advance the plot other than making me split a rib laughing.

Also, Bubastis' apperance in the film is kind of pointless because they changed the ending (Read the book kids!).
