KB Toys

Posted in Off Topic

Don't know if this belongs in off topic or not, due to the fact that it does pertain to toys, but I just recently found out that KB Toys have closed all of their stores. Apparently they filed Chapter 11 back in 2008, and in January of 2009...well that's when they closed their doors forever. This saddens me especially, because lately I've gotten back into collecting Jurassic Park action figures....KB was one of the only places that still carried the JP Dinosaurs line. I have fond memories of the store from when I was younger and I first got into JP, I started my collection off with an Ian Malcolm JP series 2 figure, and a Pachycephalasaurus(sp?). Now for avid JP fans, and other people looking for great bargains on toys, it looks ebay and flea markets are the only course of action. The End is Nigh gentleman, God help us all.

It wasn't sent to my Big Lots I just went there and their entire toy section was like half an aisle.

Well looks like I'm going to have to try and find a Big Lots....maybe some JP stuff will pop up there, since they have old stuff anyway.

The Biglots in Boardman was getting cases of stuff that was left over. I went thru them and didn't find anything that was I need to have but they did have quite a few WWE things left and some Robot Hero TF

I didn't know Big Lots owned them. I know hermitage and New castle's big lots haven't had much. Bigdaddyscott said his BL had some knockoff TF's of mini combiners. Oh one of the ones around here did have the Classics Prime Vs megatron set but without the DVD.

Lots of the remaining KB inventory was sent to Big Lots, the owners of KB.

Our KB hasn't been worth much since the 90s but back in the 80s it was the place to go for everything. Right before it closed it hadn't had anything too impressive in a long time and I'd stopped going.

We lost both the K-B Toys in our area too, nobody bought em out either. But to make matters worse, Toys R Us shut down 2 years ago. The only mom & pop toy stores sell old-fashioned toys like rocking horses and jack-in-the-boxes and other lame stuff, so no help there either. My LCS had some good figures, but most of them have all been sold and he really hasn't restocked them in ages except a couple here and there (same complaint I have about his back-issues).

So to make a long-story short, I'm in the same boat buddy. EBay all the way for me now. Or the occassional lucky find at Target or Wal-Mart.
