Video Games That Deserve More Respect

Posted in Off Topic

All gamers have their personal favorites. Games that aren't huge like Mario, Halo, and Final Fantasy but in your mind should have been. Games that you can play over and over again and are etched in your memory, but your best friend has never heard of. What are some these for you? What makes em so great?

One of my favorites from the old NES era that is finally seeing some respect, but for the longest time barely anyone I knew had ever played it: Bionic Commando. I freaking love that game. The mechanics were totally original (no jumping, instead you grappled with your bionic arm), and it took a little getting used to, but once you did it was amazing! The game was fun, challenging, had a decent story for it's day, and even got a couple RPG elements. I have the whole thing memorized, still.

This game is very similar to Zelda in it's gameplay style. But that's where the similarities end. It is closer to an actual RPG in that you gain more powerful weapons and armors and level-up your character. It has amazing graphics for the NES and a very compelling story for it's day. In fact, I would dare say that Crystalis is better than the original Legend of Zelda.

The King's Field series for PS1 & PS2 is another that I am utterly in love with. Everyone I know that has played it, HATES IT though. It's because your character moves a little slow, but there IS a run button. Anyways, it's a 1st-person 3D game, but it's an RPG set in a fantasy setting, not a shooter. You travel the land battling monsters & enemies, gaining EXP and leveling up abilities HP/MP and such, gathering magic, weapons, and armor as well, and level-up weapons as well. I really like the 1st-person perspective of it, though, it makes for a totally unique RPG experience. And you get some pretty awesome weapons and armor towards the end of the game. It is very centered on exploring and really makes you use your noggin. The NPCs won't spell everything out for you.

Shining force and Phantasy star were kinda sleeper hits for Sega. 7th Saga for the SNES and the shadowrun games for snes/genesis were good RPGs too but kinda weren't well known. A bit off topic but I came across some Shin Chan games for the gameboy today lol.

Bloody Roar was a great game, I loved it! The animal morphs were a great way to keep the game a bit unpredictable, and was a different than the average super-fireball or super-kick that other fighting games had as a power-up move. The problem was, that the sequels really did nothing to further the series, so it faded into obscurity.

now you guys have gone and done it, I'm getting roms of all the games I miss lol. or the ones I never got a chance to have. Some of them aren't that good but they have a lot of memories attached to them from the early 80s when my 2 friends were the first to get the NES and all the times we spent playing Ikari warriors and Jackal.

The Splatterhouse series were awesome! and they were uber kreepy. I've gotta say the Jurassic Park games for the SNES. Both were actually pretty fun, but the second one was awesome, and downright violent.

The whole splatterhouse seris.

The first one for the TurbroGrfax-16 was my favorite as it's a little easier. Plus it introduced the 2x4 smakdown!!!

Splatterhouse 2 for the Genesiss had a TON of gore for a 1992 video game. It has been released on the Wii and by todays standreds it got a M ratting.

Splatterhouse 3 was great because it was more like a tradional beat em up. It also had multipule endinds.

Over all they were a often over looked trigoly that rocks hardcore.
