Star Trek Review ***SPOILERS***

SPOILERS AHEAD

I HATED IT!!! I can't believe that this atrocity was made. They raped the characters, nobody acted like their characters were supposed to. The inside of the ship and the bridge especially looked horrendous. And the villain Nero was somebody that you gave a rat's arse about. How can you have a compelling villain if you care nothing about him?! Did Abrams also forget that Starfleet is a military organization? There was no sense of order, respect, or chain of command apparent at Starfleet or in the crew. Everybody said and did what they wanted when they wanted. It was like a group of teens went on a joyride in space. The crew was also missing that chemistry between them that the old crew had, and that is a big reason why the original worked so well to begin with.

And worst of all, all this was just an action film set in space. None of Star Trek themes were apparent here. There was no exploration of space, there was no exploration of humanity, and there were no notions of peace and cooperation spread here. In fact, if anything, this film promoted self-serving goals rather than the goals of all.

There, my rant is over. If you could forget that it was Star Trek somehow, it would have a been an alright sci-fi flick, though.

Well, I haven't seen it, but it is J.J. Abram's style to be unpredictable, so I am not surprized he has turned everything on it's head. Perhaps some unpredictability and sexing up is what the franchise needs to stay alive. When I found out this movie was a return to the original roots with the primary colored uniforms and all, I was a little skeptical...any time you go fudging around with long-time beloved characters, you are bound to rile some people up. Still, I would like to see this film...(Yeah, I like to see things blow up!).

This is like GI Joe and Transformers, its made for braindead people who want to munch on popcorn and see crap explode. It's going to appeal too teenagers and probably stoners. Gene Roddenberry's probably spinning in his grave that his wife let them make this. I figured Shatner turned down the offer to be in it due to not getting screen time but I think he mighta known it was a turd that will alienate Trekkies. You can't ignore 40 years of something, its like changing D&D drastically or having LOTR take place 3000 years in the future.
