Do you believe?

Posted in Off Topic

Does anyone here believe in aliens? I've been reading a book called "Chariots of the Gods" which talks about Aliens in the bible and how aliens might have "taught" ancient civilizations how to build, draw, etc. VERY interesting stuff! I'm going to Las Vegas next month and I hope I'll be able to go to the "gate" (a bunch of signs) of Area 51!! I'll post pictures when I come back!

who knows...but for any of you that think aliens or other life is not out there go outside tonight and look up at the sky...you can't even begin to count all the stars you see,and those are mostly suns from other galixies of planets...to think out of all those that earth is the only planet with life sounds pretty rediculous doesn't it!

as far as bible goes,I feel a lot of the scriptures are like art...you can take from it and make a meaning of it while I see it in another way that makes since to me...did that make any sense

If no one is familiar with Micheal Tsarion, I sugest check him out. Some of it may be a little hard to swallow at first, but the guy has A lot to say. Two of his lectures that I am most familiar with are "The Future of Mankind" and one that I got from youtube about Atlantis. Personally I do not think that he is a quack. I think he is a genius and pretty much buy into every word he speaks. Maybe I'm the quack. Nevertheless, Zeitgeist is interesting also, but its a bit more conspiracy theorist. Also Terrance McKenna (RIP) is a good source for mind expansion knowledge.

Believing anything you hear in the bible is a bad idea.

2010 was also a good movie. Ties in where David just left off in his last transmission, in the beginning scene. Awesome ending of having a monolith is a newly created planet with creatures.

2010 is the better of the 2 movies they made of Clarke's books. Has a cast that includes the chick who go the oscar for playing Queen Elizabeth. Anyone see "Ancient Aliens" on history (or history international) the other night?

I fully believe there may be life on other planets or worlds, but it may be limited to only single-cell organisms, or just a weed sprout or something like that. I doubt that we will ever find that there are little green men in flying saucers or intelligent extra-terrestrial species...but then doubts can be proved wrong...

Are you referring to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormon Church) commercial about "other sheep"?

That is taken from John 10:16 - "And I have other sheep, which are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they shall hear My voice; and they shall become one flock with one shepherd." (red-printed/words of Christ)

I think (and I may be totally wrong on this, so don't nobody go and get all righteously indignant on me here) that this is what the Mormons base their justification for John Smith's foundation of the Mormon church as another "flock" from another "prophet" who received another "testament".

I'm not sure what the true meaning of the Biblical verse is though.

I can't help much with 2001 (not a big clarke fan), but I can tell you that the monoliths are called von neumann probes. they are discussed a bit in the wonderful essay by the brilliant theortical astro-physicist michio kaku. the essay is called "the physics of extra-terrestrial civilizations" and can be read on line here..

and top notch, you are probably looking for this:

moses chapter 1:

33 And worlds without number have I created; and I also created them for mine own purpose; and by the Son I created them, which is mine Only Begotten.
34 And the first man of all men have I called Adam, which is many.
35 But only an account of this earth, and the inhabitants thereof, give I unto you. For behold, there are many worlds that have passed away by the word of my power. And there are many that now stand, and innumerable are they unto man; but all things are numbered unto me, for they are mine and I know them.

as for me, probability demands the existance of alien life. now whether they have visited us, I don't know. there has to be something out there, however.

Haha, it's quite a long movie, that's separated into parts, from prehistoric times, then to the future or past, of 2001.

Monoliths are giant black pillars set in the ground by "aliens" that help guide species to become more intellectual, like the first part, where Cave Men/ Monkeys/ pre-human beings found a monolith, which told them use sticks and bones as clubs/ weapons. Basically, there had to be something or someone to bring "us" to evolve and use whatever as multi functional tools. Then jump into the future of 2001, (this movie was made around the 1960's I believe) we humans evolved to travel in space and all sorts of stuff. David Bowman is a astronaut/ scientist that is called up to research an object found in the moon, another monolith, which sends signals to go to Jupiter, or Saturn in the book. Go to Jupiter, following a mishap with the mischievous HAL 9000, discovers a super huge Monolith, last words from David Bowman is "My God, it's full of stars", then he goes into deep space, travelling at the speed of light, from what it looked like in the movie, I think the aliens contact him through making a place where David feels comfortable and David turns into this Star Child, an embryo like, floating in space upon Earth.

If anything is missing, please fill in some gaps, I've been wanting to get the DVD of the movie for quite some time now, and I have no idea where to get one, and it's been quite a long time since I watched it.

I never heard any LDS gay jokes. It's a testiment to mankind's ego that we think we'd be alone.

I believe. I can't remember what scripture it is... it might be in the book of mormon (yes, I'm LDS... no gay jokes please) it makes a reference to the fact that Jesus created multiple worlds... like ours.... I believe.... Ill look for the verse...

There's just too much of a chance that we aren't alone for anyone to think otherwise. The Catholic church has even said that it is now okay to believe that we are not alone and for them to think that (even though they probably already have proof hidden away) is a big step.

Well one movie along tiem ago was talknig about alien life, and one of the characters stated it's a waste of space if we are the only living things on this planet, or something along those lines. So yes, I do believe in aliens, and I expect them to talk to us by monoliths...

found some stuff about (well kinda) Aliens in the bible.

"You have made him (man) a little less than the angels" (Psalm 8:6).
This sentence helps the theory of aliens helping man.

"praise ye Him, all His angels: praise ye Him, all His hosts ... for He spoke and they were made. He commanded and they were created" (Psalm 148:2, 5: Colossians 1:16, 17).
Also helps the teory of teaching man but I'd like to add that it also might represent man worshipping these "gods".

Also note Ezekiel's "flaming chariot" with "angels" that fly down on "wheels".

Bible: New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures
Ezekiel 1:1-28

I really hate when news reporters and such lol at the idea of Aliens. I mean if you think about how many galaxeys there are and someone says "theres no way theres aliens" it makes them look ignorant if you know what I mean? But then again, common human behavior.

I think it could very well be possible that their are aliens
