Creator Todd McFarlane has officially begun writing the new Spawn film, the second live-action adaptation of his record breaking Image comic book from the early 90's. "I've officially begun writing the SPAWN MOVIE screenplay," he writes on his Twitter. "The story has been in my head for 7 or 8 years. Will continue to update," he promises. "The movie idea is neither a recap or continuation. It is a stand alone story that will be R-rated. Creepy and scary," adding, "the tone of this SPAWN movie will be for a more older audience. Like the film DEPARTED." There you have it, straight from the horses mouth. Thank God for Twitter.

Todd has been working on that for years so will remain unstoked until I see a trailer and the second one will be hot, but a far cry from the Russ Meyer films that it is obviously trying to imitate...

Todd McFarlane is a douche. A damn good artist, but still a douche.

Oh, and that Castlevania post looks freaking awesome. I hope they do it justice, but it is a video game movie. More likely than not that poster will be the coolest thing to come out of the movie.

P.W.A. ON CASTLEVANIA

Since the announcement here on Bloody Disgusting a few weeks ago that Saw co-creator Jame Was would be getting beind the camera for the live-action adaptation of the popular NES game Castlevania, not much has been said. The boys over at MTV caught up with Producer Paul W.S. Anderson who talked a bit more about what we can expect.

“There’ll be the whip and there’ll be creatures,” Anderson said, referring to Simon Belmont’s weapon of choice and the mythical beasts he battles as he makes his way through Dracula’s castle in the original video game.

“James is doing a pass on the script to put himself into it with the tricks and the traps, which he is really good at,” explained Anderson. “One of the things with ‘Castlevania’ is it’s not just about the creatures but the environment trying to get to you as well. I think he is a terrific choice because a key part of ‘Castlevania’ is the intensity of being trapped within the confines of the castle, and he’s shown with ‘Saw’ that he excels with intensity in confined spaces.”

Isn't repo men already on dvd? Milla just married Anderson lol. Screen Gems is the king to direct to dvd movies that rock. Except Tyrant in the last RE it was lame.

A couple of quick release updates have come in as Sony Screen Gems will now release Resident Evil: Afterlife in theaters on August 27, 2010, a few weeks earlier than originally announced. Milla Jovovich returns as Alice in the film written and directed by Paul W.S. Anderson. In other news, Repo Men (previously known as Repossession Mambo) will finally hit theaters on April 2, 2010. The pic is a morality tale is set in the near future, when artificial organs can be bought on credit, with the understanding that defaulting on payment will result in a fatal repossession. Jude Law and Forest Whitaker star.
