Stargate Universe ***SPOILERS***

DANG WHAT A SHOW! I am excited about this series! It is completely different from the other Stargate shows and movies. Well, there is a Stargate, but no that's about where the similarities end. It's about a group of researchers and a small military group (sent with them for protection) that get's lost in the universe. They are stationed on another planet where they discoverd a new Stargate. This stargate had a 9 zenith code input though, when the others were only known to have 8 before. They couldn't figure out a nine-digit address that actually worked, though. So they set up a video game with a puzzle in it that no one had solved (and was the answer to the 9-digit address). A kid finally cracks the code and the Stargate team shows up at his doorstep to recruit him. They send him to the offworld research station where he helps them out with the code. Right when the code is punched in and the gate opens, they are attacked. So they evacuate through the gate into the unknown. (They also don't want to risk dialing Earth, because then they'd reveal it's location) They all end up on an ancient ship barely held together by spit and bailing wire and run by system they can barely understand (because it's alien). Not only that, but life-support systems are failing on it, so they have to figure out the system quick. By the end of the episode they discover that they cannot dial out (or back home to Earth) with this particular Stargate. But it does have pre-set addresses that they input just to see where they go hoping to get somewhere where they can contact Earth. But the catch is, the gate only stays open for 12 hours on each visit.


So basically, they are a group of people lost in the universe, on a ship they cannot control, and using a stargate that opens up totally random destinations. I was really impressed with the 2-hour opener and I'm fully looking forward the rest of the season. If the rest of the season can hold up to this opener, then this show will quickly become my new favorite show. I really like the characters and the sense of desperation and urgency. It looks like on top of the sci-fi, we're also gonna get a heavy dose of a survival movie in it (ala Dawn of the Dead).

Oh, and Dr. Rush can't be as evil and coniving as the show is making him out to be already, it's too soon. It's the first freaking episode! I think it's a red herring to throw us off the trail of the truly bad one or ones.
