Looking for ideas of ways to display my toy collections

Posted in Action Figure Chatter

I was never as serious about toys as I have become in these past couple of weeks when I came upon a few hundred dollars by luck. Up until about 2 weeks ago I was only a Mcfarlane collector & my collection wasn't that big (Tortured Souls 1, the 5 12 inch Tortured Souls, Infernal Parade, Monsters 1,2,3, W.O.R. Spawn, Matrix Musicland exclusive & HR Giger LI2) but I then decided to expand my collection with a lot of my childhood toys (Swamp Thing, Kenner Aliens & Dark Ages Spawn) & continue to keep buying more of the older toys and I get them all on Ebay. Now my problem is that most of my mcfarlane toys are loose and displayed on shelves, but now im going to be getting over 30 figures in the older packages - with cards, not clamshells like Mcfarlane figures - and I don't know how Im going to display them. I have seen pictures of ppls collections on the internet who have them like covering their walls and that is what I would like to do, but don't know how to. Do they use like hooks or put them in bags and tack them up or what?

I know what you mean, one day I was staring at my Iron Man and Mandarin guys when they were still packaged, and I swear I thought I saw Mandarin give Tony the stink eye. So then I heard Iron Man calling to me wanting to smack Mandarin around so I tore them out of their packages and they started duking it out!! Oh man!! there were ring blasts and plasma shots everywhere!! No not really but I know what you mean... :minigun: :bio:

Oh dude totally it is ok to open them up if u want, don't listen to the nerds seriously, don't hold back, they were meant to be taken out, just like remember that stuff like...ok I read this thing 1 time that said like all the biggest harms to your figures and it was like, light, hot, cold, gravity, dryness, moisture, sunlight, just take care of them good. but here is my theory, ok im about to go right now and open my set of Monsters 1 by mcfarlane and here is my opinion (and keep in mind that this is my personal opinion, do what u like) ok mcfarlane toys all come out of the package because they look better that way and were meant to be displayed and then like vintage stuff, swamp thing, aliens, etc, I leave in the package because well you know mcfarlane toys, they just look cooler out of the package, I will just have to post some pics so u can see what I mean when I say they look better displayed, but dude don't feel guilty about opening them, I think a lot of us have those same impulsive moments where we just need to make physical contact with what is behind that plastic shield, lol, is it just me that hears the tiny voices coming from my packages telling me to take them out??? lol

I used to have my stuff in the packages but then I got crazy and tore the toys out of them. I was screamed at by fellow collectors and friends "YOU MANIAC WHAT HAVE YOU DONE!! @_@!?" but I got over their protests soon.

Now I have them displayed according to their groups and teams like JLA and Avengers. I clean them now and then but they look better to me that way.

I have no intentions of like outdoing ne1 or being the best or something, I just want my collection to look cool when it is displayed and have other ppl think so too. I will have to put up some pics soon. Im just waiting on some stuff I ordered on ebay, but I got this big peg board from home depot (50 by 40 inches) and it is on a frame and I got hooks for it too. So I brought it home, sanded down the rough edges and spray painted it black, it looks really cool I think, but I want some opinions once I hang it on my wall. I would love to see the batmobiles too, batman is awesome too, I used to have a bunch of that stuff. neways I will have pics soon for ne1 who wants to see them when they are ready

I won't bother correcting grammatical errors this time...

I'm going to have to make custom backdrops to put my toys on then to display them all fancy and nice-like. I just have em sprawling out and about the room here. And besides, I want to show off my new batmobiles...and out do mutilator...

You're welcome. I'd love to see pics of your collection. I can post them on the website so others can see them if you like. If you are interested email them to mailto:captaincoder@figurerealm.com. It sounds like you have a pretty cool setup under way, with the theatrical effects and all. I can't wait to see it.

Yeah, well thats kind of what I was thinking, but I will just have to see what my space permits and everything. Hey, to you who replied to my post, thanx and if you want to see a totally awesome looking collection as well as my displaying room I can send you some pics. I'm not really sure how to, but if you tell me how, I will put them up or just send them to you directly in an e-mail, but seriously I am such a nerd and have obsessive compulsive disorder which has me spending literally sometimes 6 or more hours at a time in my displaying room, messing around with my toys to make them look just right. I look at them from all different angles, mess with lighting and all kinds of stuff to make them look as cool as I possibly can. I did the room myself too, crimson curtains, custom shelving and black paint give it a very theatrical quality. Yes, I am very into my toys and collecting and once I get my shipments of new ones (12 Swamp Thing, 16 Aliens & 6 Robocop figures) I would be happy to take some pics and show them to anyone who wants to see them!

To hang the carded figures on the wall, I think the most common method is to use thumb tacks. Most of the carded figures have a punch hole already, so you just hang them on the thumb tack you stuck in the wall. For the ones that don't (assuming you don't want to poke holes in the card), or if you want to keep the dust off, you can put them in comic book bags and poke the thumbtack through the comic book bag. I don't think the bags will display as nice though.

There was a similar conversation to this one here:

I wish we had some more pics of collections around here... anybody care to send some??
