New and enthused

Hello everyone,
I'm brand new to the diy action figure craft and am glad to have found this site. After some stumbling around on the internet, I happened upon this forum and have poked around a bit...and noticed that a lot of the creations here are made with already existing parts from other figures. Are there tutorials on here for beginners who wish to make an original action figure? I realize now that I'm getting into a rather complex hobby!

Thanks for the info!
I've been trying to figure out how I wanna go about building a new base, but can't seem to figure out what to ask the internet to get me started. (hah, so far modding is starting to look like a better option...) My original idea is to sculpt my character out of polymer clay, bake it to harden, then use it as my mold to cast in silicone (?). I'm not 100% sure if I wanna use resin for the final product or not, as I'd like it to be durable yet flexible. The other issue is making the individual body parts since I'm shooting for a fully poseable toy. Sorry if that's confusing I'm still trying to understand the process from start to finish.

What makes a figure flexible is the joints, so there shouldnt be a problem making hard casts. You could make a hard copy then cut it up and invent the articulation then. It just depends on on what youre making and how you want it to move.

Theres no difference between modding figures and making them from scratch, sculpting is sculpting no matter what youre doing. Any sculpting tutorials will be useful for modding figures.

Making them from scratch is harder though because you have to engineer and create your own joints. Even the sculptors at toy companies use pre-existing joints to make life easier. I like using plain figures since you can add all the details you want without needing to grind away unwanted details, the professional sculptors work in wax then make molds of the parts to cast hard copies for mass production.

Try getting some Revoltech joints if you want to start from zero, theyre useful versatile joints,

All the tutorials we have can be found by going to Features > Customs > Tutorials

Hope that helps
