Good cutting bit for rotary tool

Posted in Custom Workstation

I picked up a WEN rotary tool (http://www.shopyourway.com/wen-101-piec ... /219489787) a while ago because it was much cheaper than a Dremel but looked like it would be virtually identical. Unfortunately, the included cutting bits aren't very sturdy for cutting plastic, especially something thick like the hair on my Funko FemShep. Is there a particular type of Dremel-compatible cutting bit I should look for that would be good for cutting plastic? Everything else in the set seems fine, so I really just need a decent but cheap cutting bit.

It doesn't really matter, just get whatever generic one that looks good. Those bits are for cutting things like tile or drywall, even brick, plastic figs don't put up much of a fight lol. You don't need fancy diamond impregnated bits for example.

You can even use normal drill bits as cutting bits, they just arent as efficient.

I bought a bunch of random bits from china for like a buck, havent needed anything else.

If youre cutting things too thick for the dremel to handle, youre probably better off using a mini hacksaw anyway. Much faster to remove large amounts of material with it.

Eventually youll find what works for your particular projects, im not familiar with the POP figs.

Keep in mind rotary tools like this are designed to cut slowly at high speeds. Those cutting discs will just break if you try to cut something thick or torque them too much, but work well on most action figures.

You could try cutting bits, they look like drill bits but are designed to cut sideways, think of them as a "drill knife"

EDIT: lol I totally skimmed over that last part, oops

Right, that's why I figured I'd ask about specific cutting bits; just searching on Amazon gets a lot of results that I'm not really sure how to sort through, especially because there seem to be a lot of different kinds of cutting bits.
