Shiny figure?

Posted in Custom Workstation

Hello all. I'm new to customizing and trying to learn. I'm working on a marvel legends figure where I'm doing a simple repaint using model masters acryl paint. After 24 hours I checked the area that I'm working on and it's very shiny. I want something flat looking like the figures normally are. I've read that using dullcote might be what I want to get rid of that shiny look. They have the spray can and the bottle of dullcote. Is it okay to just get the bottle of dullcote and paint it on with a brush? I've also read that dullcote can "melt" the paint or distort it. Is there a certain technique to use with it? Any advice much appreciated, thanks!

I've never had problems with their Dullcote. It's horribly expensive for how little you get though, a terrible value. I would look for other kinds of "Satin" or "Matte" sprays to get more product for your buck.

I recommend you use the same brand and type dull coat or Matt varnish as the paint, as far as brushing or spaying it on, it's personal preference, myself I prefer to dilute it with water at a ratio of 2 to 1 and use a airbrush.

thanks, I bought some dullcote in the bottle and I'll experiment with brushing it on.
