Toy RPGs anyone?

Posted in Action Figure Chatter

Anybody else ever make a tabletop roleplaying game out of their toys? I used to rig them up now and again when I was younger. They were usually pretty simple affairs that resolved entirely around combat using dice. I remember my younger brother made a neat wrestling combat game with his M.U.S.C.L.E. figures. Everybody fought with a six-sided dice, with the higher numbers corresponding to more devastating moves. Whomever currently held the belt got to fight with an eight-sided die, making them tougher.

Although I don't own any, the Shadowrun action figures had a game built around them and their accessories which looked interesting. It'd be cool if there was a toy-centric gaming system that you could use to incorporate everything from super heroes to giant robots into one all-inclusive universe (something like the RIFTS tabletop RPG I guess).

Me and my older brother also made a game using M.U.S.C.L.E.s! As I remember it it involved rolling dice and every number corresponded to a different move(all the moves were written down on note cards). Than the move you got would kill the apposing M.U.S.C.L.E. if it had a higher attack number than his defense. We played the whole thing on a checkerboard.

We also played a simpler one with the old G.I. Joe's (the little ones). The idea behind this one was to take turns shooting at the other guys Joe's using the dart guns they came with from the places in a room that you had placed your soldiers. We also would use army men in this game sometimes.

Monsters in my pocket is as far as I went, they each had a number on their back which you read out and the highest number won and you got to keep the monster you defeated. This was the way you were supposed to use them but I added rules like tag team and triple team battles.

sounds like a cool idea but I've never done it. I've played Mage Knights (I have a few hundred figures) and I play some online MMORPG's but never thought of making up my own game and using toys.
