Duplicating Marvel Legends parts

Posted in Custom Workstation

Hi! I'm kinda new to the idea of custom figures, so I hope this question doesn't seem obvious or stupid or anything like that. Is it viable to go about replicating an entire marvel legends by making a mold for every individual part? I'm mostly just wondering if the cost of the liquid plastic would end up saving me enough money to justify it. Thanks for your help!

I'll echo Nightmare: Totally expensive, time consuming and kinda confusing. Confusing? Yes. Say u just made 2 diff molds for 2 diff arms. How do u know which is which? You don't unless u go out of your way to "label" it somehow- molds come out as a rubbery material- not easy to write on. Also, I learned the hard way (Doc Nightmare knows ) most times bigger pieces will require 2-part molds- when u make say one half of an arm, then hold the other part in place w/Apoxie- also NOT cheap- then repeat the process for the other parts. Heads, , accessories or hands/feet w/o joints are the only times where an easy 1 part mold is good. There are many tutorials on youtube- it's how I learned. Lots of trial & error. Cast dries SUPER quickly. Cool cuz u can see & play w/your creation right away but not cool when u are pouring cast into ur mold and it dries as u pour it. Now u have another useless Iceman accessory. LOL
Good Luck!

also, with the same idea, would it be worth the money to duplicate another figure with better articulation? like a figure arts or a play arts Kai?

Also, any particular site or place I'd go to for the best prices? A guy at my local flea market used to sell brand new marvel legends for $8 a piece. They weren't fake, so I wish I had stocked up. I think he got arrested or something, though...

Thanks for the quick comment! Guess it's not really worth it unless the parts are really expensive.

Totally possible, but totally expensive, especially if you've never done it before and need to go through the whole trial and error process. I think it would be best for casting joints in needed colors, or hard to find parts like bare feet or certain heads.

Then again, how cost effective it is depends on how available base figures are to you. We can get Batrocs for like 5 bucks in the US, but someone in the UK may have to pay retail and shipping and taxes.
