Any pointers for switching to lacquer paints?

Posted in Custom Workstation

I'm thinking of switching to lacquer paints because of their durability, but I'd like some opinions on what their pros and cons are for painting figures.

For example, what is a typical workflow for lacquers vs acrylics? Do I need special equipment, brushes? etc.

Do they react badly with certain plastics? What kind of figures could I paint with them?

I haven't had any experience with lacquer paints, but I know from others' experience that depending on the plastic, the lacquer can slightly melt the plastic its applied on and make it really tacky. A nephew of mine used it on a nickleodeon ninja turtle's plastron, and it's still sticky to this day.

That said, I have seen the occasional figure that uses lacquer paint, so for now, all I can really say is do some more research, and some small scale experiments.

Good luck1
