Any ideas on "The Bug"...?

Posted in Custom Workstation

Ok, so a friend of mine and I have both dabbled in customizing action figures (him way more than me) and he's actually rather crafty in general... really good at making... stuff. Especially cool, accurate, geeky stuff.

But we've both gone back and forth and usually ended up when trying to come up with an idea of how to make probably the coolest vehicle in all superhero comics (and even if you don't agree, come on, it's up there towards the top of the list)... Blue Beetle's Bug!

Now, there are numerous different artistic takes on the thing, including how big it should be, what specific shape it should be, and other variables, so that kind of is some built-in leeway... but... even trying to find a place to start, something to use as a base to build on to, is really, really driving us crazy. In an ideal world, we'd love for this to fit DCUC figures in it... but... we're even flexible on that right now because we'd really just like to hear an idea that could actually work. Any thoughts...?

Looks like you could start by welding together plastic bottles and go from there.

Oh, you did reply! That's weird. I couldn't see any other replies when I looked at this on my phone. Not sure why that makes sense. Hmmm... bottles. You mean like a 2 liter soda bottle? Sorry, I'm just trying to imagine what way you're suggesting them be welded. Side by side and then build the shape around it?

There are lots of different types of bottles, just gotta find the right shapes to stick together. There might be some shampoo bottles that could work, for example. If all else fails you can always make the rough shape out of foam and use bondo/clay over it to refine the details.

The legs might be easy enough, you could use the neck of a flexible lamp, that way they have a cool ribbed pattern and are totally flexible.

No thoughts, huh? I guess at least I don't feel bad that we've struggled with it. If anyone thinks of anything, let me know...
