Bark at the Moon! WIP-Wolfman

Posted in Custom Workstation

Hey Realmers,

I have recently tried tackling sculpting again. I have failed on probably over 20 figures and barely used it with my customs thus far, save for a few. For me, it has been about finding a knack for the material- I'm using Aves- and the craft itself!

I started sculpting a while ago, with many types of sculpt-Aves seems to suit me well- part of finding my edge with this aspect of the art. Sculpting is tough. It has to look right- from many angles at times. You also need to pull off the aesthetic you are goin for! Not an easy task.

I got some pointers from a fellow customizer: sculpt a little at a time, mix a little aves at a time, and watch where the object you are sculpting is 'going'.

As I started to get inspired to sculpt again, I found that I lacked motivation. Why sculpt if you don't HAVE to? So I held off on it and went for some of my crazy paint job experiments.

I have a bit of advice from this experience- DRAW. Just get a pencil or pen, nothing special, and try to draw an action figure or something. Draw it JUST in shapes first. and make every shape have depth and appear 3d. You have to believe you are creating a 3d object on the 2 dimensional plane(paper). This improved my brains inner kinks that prevented some sculpting ability to finally flow. I HIGHLY recommend you do this before your next project.

Which leads me to this project. Wolfman, bottom of the fodder box or my "I need to throw this out or sell" fodder box.

I always liked the classic horror and comics. My dad was a fan so it had an impact on me. I thought, well, I'm just gonna beef this guy up, and if I fail, oh well!

Hope I did these links right for the photos! First WIP post. As far as the progress goes, I need to work out the fur issue...fake fur or sculpt? experiences? Inputs? Any insight is great!

The muscles look great so far, especially those on the torso. Very detailed. Sculpted fur would probably look better at this scale and style.

thanks for the input buddy, I am leaning towards that, someone mentioned the fur mix media style, but I'm feeling a texture sculpt mostly with some bigger parts, probably will look to the toybiz beast as a reference
