Use paper to fix loose heads

Posted in Custom Workstation

Sometimes you just want to do a simple headswap but the neck-ball may be too small, resulting in a loose fit. Instead of using messy hot glue or sticky gunk to fix this, you can just use paper.

Cut little circles of paper slightly wider than the head's cavity and simply cram them in there. Pop the head on so the paper will get locked into the cavity. Then...you're done.

I can't believe it took me this long to realize this lol. It's a totally non-destructive and safe way to fix that joint. The goal is simply to add friction to create a stiffer joint, this works and lets you fine tune as needed by adding/removing layers of paper. (I only needed 3 layers)

If the fit is really loose, mix a little water and white glue and dunk the paper circles into it, then stuff as many as you need in the head's cavity. Pop the head on before it completely dries so the paper inside can conform to the cavity. Easy!

Nice customizing tip, especially for when you're trying out heads to see if they will work on a particular body. I like using "fun" or "blue" tack for the same purpose, and for temporarily holding down hair pieces until I decide whether I like how it looks with a certain head. I know it would probably fall under the category of "sticky gunk" for some people, but at normal room temperature it's just somewhat tacky with a relatively firm consistency and I find it quick and easy to work with.
