Costume trim

Hello Realmers, Question, I am working on a custom and wanted to know the best way to do trim, like around the edge of gloves on forearm and the tops of boots? I tried painting them on but I want something with texture & a raised surface to separate costume and skin. Thanks in advance!

Press a snake of clay onto the area where you want the raised part.

Feather one side of the snake onto the figure. You can just use your finger.

Use a straight tool to neatly cut off the excess clay from the other side.

Follow up with some sanding to refine shapes and make everything look neat.

That's all there is to it.

You can sculpt them onto the gloves or boots with Aves apoxy or Green Stuff. Either one will let you create a raised surface that you can add texture to. It also makes it easier to paint the seams as well.

Thx for the response! I need to order myself some Aves because I hear it works well. Milliput is the only one I've been able to just go in a store and purchase.

I haven't used it but Milliput should work fine, even Playdoh works. Actually, practice feathering with Playdoh or Sculpey.

Sanding after is what lets you make the line between the sculpt and the plastic disappear (feather).
