First Custom: Revoltech Spider-Man

Posted in Custom Workstation

Hi everyone, I'm looking to make my first custom action figure and I could really use the insight of the more experienced customizers on this site. I simply want to take the 2004 dual web swing Spider-Man head

And place it on the revoltech Spider-Man body

Now, the revoltech Spidey that I will be buying will be a knock off, so I plan on purchasing a bunch of spare revoltech joints in addition to one of these double ball joints to replace the neck joint so that the 2004 Spidey head will fit on the body.

Again, I just want to know if I'm on the right track or not. I'd hate to buy all of these things only to find out that what I'm planning to do isn't as simple as I'm making it out to be. Thank you in advance for the help.

UPDATE: All the parts I needed for this custom came in so I finally put together my Revoltech Toybiz Spidey and he looks SPECTACULAR!

Each figure is different and there lies the problem. Headswaps mean messing around with different joint and necks etc and can be pain. I like revoltech but haven't got many but also would this Spider-Man body be too small for the head? Yeah it's difficult to suggest stuff and it's often why customising takes longer as one needs the right pieces and doesn't want to waste money and time on things they ultimately don't end up using. It's also why keeping broken figures in a fodder bin can be useful to repair other figures or make a custom. I made a black suited Spider-Man based off the move and to get the figures head properly articulated I used a clone troopers arm joint to allow 360• rotation and for him to be able to look up and down. Hope goes well for you.

If it's any comfort, stuff is rarely as simple as you want it to be lol. Often it's just as hard to modify existing articulation to fit, or use screws and junk to make the joint anyway. Revoltech Joints are great though, if you can find cheap grab bags. Those double-ball joints look good too for torso articulation.

I can't imagine it would be too hard to do that transplant, but let us know how it goes

I'm not familiar with either figure. What joint would fit the head you're transplanting, and what socket would fit the neck joint on the body? A couple months back, I did a transplant with the head from a Penny Dreadful Vanessa (Bif Bang Pow) and the body of Gotham Selina Kyle (Diamond Select). Vanessa had been mounted on a ball joint, while Selina had a swivel head. What I ended up doing was popping Selina's head off and then sculpting a ball joint on her neck with Apoxie Sculpt. Worked like a charm, it fits and holds well (I did drop tests), but still articulates. The one thing I'd say about it is that her head FEELS looser on there, it's so easy to turn it. But it really won't come off by accident, even with rough handling.
