Help on painting yellow capullo bat belt to more bvs bronze

Posted in Custom Workstation

I'm just asking for some pointers on this I have no experience in model painting something I'm just getting into. I have this idea of painting the yellow greg capullo batman figure belt to a more darker bronze finish as in the Affleck BVS belt. Any ins and outs I need to know about? Thanks guys

You should also check out the Figure Realm tutorial section, pretty much all the info I gave can be found in the various topics, plus possibly a few things I didn't mention.

So I'm guessing it's a bit more rigid but still somewhat flexible. First thing would be to remove the belt, it will make prep work and painting a lot easier. Next, clean the piece with soap and water (use an old toothbrush if you have one, or get a cheap one from the store), rinse when done. Then you will want to use a fine grit sandpaper to slightly rough up the belt surfaces, this helps to give the paint better adherence. You want to use acrylic paint for plastic models, which you can find at any hobby store or online, there are a variety of brands but make certain you're using acrylic, other paints will melt the plastic, remain tacky and tend not to dry completely. You shouldn't have any problems finding metallic bronze or gold paints, just make sure you're getting the color you want, most sellers on ebay will include a color swatch in pics to give you an idea of how it will look. As for painting itself, do several thin layers rather than a single thick one, it will look better and be less likely to crack, chip and peel.

Ok I gotcha, the belt is made out of the same plastic the body sculpt is from what it looks like. I'm wondering how it would be painting over the yellow factory coat I mean can you even do that and what type of paint you recommend for the plastic? Thanks man

I'm not familiar with the figure so have no idea what sort of plastic the belt is made of, but I do know capes on a number of DC Collectibles figures used a more rubbery plastic and the usual acrylic paint will crack and peel rather than flex with the material.
