Weird thing with the shoulder cavity and ball?

Posted in Custom Workstation

Hey guys, I was preventing joint rub in the shoulder area. I tried to sand the shoulder cavity of my batroc figure so that the cavity won't touch the ball at all. Did I shave off too much of my shoulder cavity? This is my first ever custom, and I don't know if it looks wrong or not. I see customs online with the shoulder cavity not shaved off too much. I moved the shoulder ball inside the cavity until the ball stopped touching the cavity. My shoulder ball literally doesn't even touch the cavity in these pictures. Is my cavity normal? And if Im doing it wrong, how do you experienced guys go about shaving the shoulder cavity so it doesn't touch the shoulder ball, more specifically the batroc fig? Thanks for anyone who answers! There's no right way to do anything, just whatever you're comfortable and happy with.

I sand/grind down the rim around that cavity anytime I can, because yeah sometimes the shoulders will scrape against it. I almost always have to do this with the female figures because the fit is so tight. That or coat the whole thing in superglue and pray.

Also, if you grind away some material to the sides of the chest, you can increase the range a little when moving the arms across the chest.

Dang. That first thing you said is something I'm going to remember from now on when I customize since it already helped me. I just thought that my shoulder cavity looked a little too big lol.

I don't know about others, but I've never had to shave out the shoulder cavity, just sand it down a bit if I'm going to paint it. It looks like from the pics you may be applying the paint too thickly, with your first layer or two some of the underlying original color will still be showing through.

Thanks for responding, I thought no one would respond. But doesn't the shoulder ball rub on the shoulder cavity rim if you don't sand it enough? And since you don't have a problem with shoulder ball paint rubbing off, is it because you're putting a sealant on top of your paint, or maybe a layer of superglue on your shoulder ball?
