Hiya all, just wondering if anyone knew of someone who could make a really good custom cape for a Batman DCUC figure?? ...I'm wanting something that can drape down in front like a One:12 Mezco Dark Knight Returns cape: Thanks heaps!
Last one, this time with no wires. I refined the template so it looks good as a standard cape for these male DCUC bodies. It hangs okay and there's no stitching needed (if you use glue on the pinched collar tips and to add a wire under the collar).
You can make the cape cover the shoulders more just by yanking it down a little. To get full shoulder coverage while still keeping the wrinkles/folds around the collar, you'd just have to leave more material where needed.
For that Mezco Batman, it looks like maybe they just used a half-circle for the cape, that's why it has so much extra material. I think you could just tuck/fold the extra material back under the shoulders so it would look like this Superman's cape.
You're an absolute gentleman man. Thanks heaps for that! You've done an awesome job on those and I appreciate the pics! There's definitely a few Batman figs I will try this template/technique out on. I love how it "frames" the shoulders and arms!! Looks brilliant! ...And with this style you don't have any large wrinkles that you get from one's that drape over the shoulders. I'll try the half circle pattern for the Mezco-look...that should be just about right.
Shape that I cut out was a little wider and longer, neck area stayed the same. I only used one layer of fabric and I like the thinness a lot more. It's easier to shape the collar area too, just pinch it and glue the folds in place, trim as needed. (tape is just temporary to keep it in place for the picture)
Only hemmed the bottom edge and added a wire. It doesn't do much for posing though, you really need to add the wire all around the edges to get cool poses.
Another great job! Yes one layer would be enough I would have thought too. One day I'll try a wired cape all the way around. They do look great don't they.
Got bored so I gave it a try, I just eyeballed the paper template. This cape looks better on a smaller female figure, like Spidergirl or Supergirl. Make the template a little longer/wider as needed. Also, I'm not sure how to get sharp corners on the cape.
Don't use hotglue to join the fabric, it leaves inflexible bulky spots. Here I used some "adhesive webbing" instead of stitching, it's basically webbing that you place between fabric to glue it together with an iron.
I used normal shirt fabric and it's fine, but you could probably use a little thicker material and use a single layer, just hem the edges.
Thanks mate!! I have actually seen that video from Wylun Customs. He does a simple yet really effective job. What I'm really after though is something more like the Mezco cape and how it hangs nicely in front. I really like the tutorial from Zubbie you gave me. It gave me a good idea of how to measure and draw the shape etc. I'll just have to cut a larger shape to allow for the drape down in front look.

No wire is better for the draped poses.

Only thing you would change is only add a wire to the neck area, not all the way around
