Is it okay to like toys at 20?

Posted in Action Figure Chatter

Hey everybody, I feel sad about my life & I just want some reassurance & support from you other collectors out there to let me know that I am not just a complete loser. Okay, my name is Paul & I am a toyaholic, seriously lol. Okay I am about to turn 20 (on easter by coincidence) & I sort of feel bad because I feel like I should be growing out of toys but I just seem to be becoming more obsessed as time goes on & lately its gotten really bad. Okay I played drums and was really in shape and chicks were quite fond of me, but lately it seems that has all just become less important to me. I mean I think I might take toys over chix and that is bad dude seriously lol! Like after playing drums for over 3 years I sold my drum kit which I had easily put 2 grand into over the years & with the money I got from selling it (which was of course considerably less unfortunently) I bought toys & a digital camera to take pictures of them! Do you people think this is normal or do you all think Im losing it?

I don't do trades other than Ebay. I have gotten burned too many times. Lost a staircase from matrix in a trade also lost a Terminator endoskelliton too. If they get to 90% off I will pick them up. I bought Mcfarlanes Al Simmons vs Spawn sets for $2.50 each about a month ago. So the dragons may get there.

I saw some guy at Wal-Mart a few weeks ago picking like... five or six toys off the shelf that had to be at least fifty or sixty. Twenty doesn't seem so old now, does it? lol

oh dude hell yeah I like manson, saw him in concert like a year ago & im listening to him right now by coincidence. I know "the fight song, beautiful people & coma white on the drums like the back of my hand. I also use his same make-up (MAC-expensive as hell too) & yes thats right eyeliner, white powder, lipstick, the whole nine yards. When I went to the concert everyone told me that I did my make-up the best of anyone there! Goth for life and proud of it! I guess wearing makeup & the whole goth thing appeals to me partly because the whole theatrics factor and everything is just fun & really helps me to get more into my own little world you know. Like I used to put on make-up, turn on the strobe light in my room & jam with all my toys watching, the tortured souls are so goth! Oh and I figure now is a good time to explain my sn, okay, almost everyone I meet thinks im gay, but I would probably be better described as a metrosexual, cuz I am frickin crazy about chix for the record! lol, Then also, ironically, I am also into scarification which explains the mutilator part & if youre wondering what scarification is , it is like a tattoo with a razor. I am super into it all. I used to cover drum heads in blood and hang them on my walls, but I also love to cut in the bath tub because it makes me feel like Elizabeth Bathory who inspired the idea & also is the reason the water turns such a beautiful deep crimson, because it is in fact her name that I carve deep into my flesh (Mcfarlane's Monsters 3, if youre not familiar with her, she bathed in virgin girl's blood because she thought it was the fountain of youth.) I have carved her name in big letters deep into my right calf & it looks awesome! best one I ever did, but I have Marilyn Manson in big letters carved into my right forearm & Slipknot in big letters on the left forearm, Slipknot lyrics on my left calf and about a tennis ball size nine-pointed star on my left thigh. Yeah im out there & I am also a devoted christian & hope to get baptized soon. Contradiction you ask? All I can say is that if youd lived my life and had been where I have youd understand, well im writing a book about my life so hopefully it will open up peoples minds more about things. On another note have any of you seen the Manson action figures? some of them are really cool! I saw them on ebay.

ps. if ne1 wants proof of my "art", I'd be happy to send pics! lol

Dragons....the hunt began yesterday at Media Play, picked up the Fire Clan Dragon ($9.99), only one they had left
Hit up another MP a few hours later, score! Completed the set plus noticed a foot variation on the Water Clan Dragon, grabbed them both but haven't determined the cause of the different feet yet. Problem... I wanted 2 sets, one to open one to keep MIP. MP only had 1 Sorcerer Clan and I bought the only 2 Water Clan they had. So with out those I couldn't make a second set.
Raced over to a comic shop by me and found the Sorcerer Clan ($10.99) and another Water Clan and the Berserker Clan boxed set ($22.99)
So we ended yesterday with 1 complete set and 2 extras.
Go to Toys R Us today and pick up the last 3 ($10.99) I need for the 2nd set and I'm a happy camper. Now I just need a Berserker Clan boxed set to open and I'm good to go

So if you have a TRU near by I'd advise checking them out. They've also hit at some Walmarts ($7.87) but both Walmarts by me don't cary McFarlane stuff it seems.

Now moving along there's another toy collector in the world who likes Manson!?!?!

Yeah, high is fine.

(Im a mod by the way ;D)

I like the way those bands dress. I had a lady that would dress like that...moonlight on her pale skin...but anyway, enough nostalgia...

Okay CJK I am so jealous of you, you don't even know. Where in the world did you find the dragons series!? I am a total mcfarlanes nut & like when a new series comes out I buy the whole thing (all 6 figures usually) I go to EBgames, Suncoast Pictures, Sam Goody, Spencer's Gifts every weekend & nada! I can't find them anywhere!
As for mr tear 777 dude its nice to know that there are nice ppl like you around. I have no friends, nobody, I am kind of a gothic outcast type & everyone just thinks im a weirdo or creep (<--direct qoute) especially in my small redneck trailer trash town. I am so lonely and everyone just looks down on me but its ppl like you that make me feel proud that im who I am. Oh and I am curious what you like to play on the drums & what kinda music you like (my fav band is slipknot - goin to see em on april 24th!!! yay! & I also like american headcharge, manson, nothingface, cradle of filth & rammstein) but another dude who plays drums and likes toys! what a small world! lol
& to dr nightmare - I have to confess that there are a certain group of figures that I sometimes hear talking to me & actually try to conversate with me sometimes & that for some reason is my Twisted Land of Oz collection, but that only seems to happen when Im really...can I say high on this forum???

Joo dudes r old...lolz...

Pssh, I collect them because I want to have a representation of every comic character I see so I've got quite a few...

You can't ever have too much toy time just like you can never have too much fun time or nap time or push-your-girlfriend-off-of-you-because-you-want-to-play-with-toys time, well actually if you push your GF off of you to do that then you need to be psycologically examinated

Try to back off the toys when you start buying compulsively, not because you like the toy but because you just have to have it. Thats a bad sign...

So youre 20 and you like toys. As long as the toys don't start talking to you youre all right. If the ladies like yas then go ahead and get yerself one. And remember to give them the ultimatum between accepting your toys or hitting the road, ladies like it when you tell em stuff like that

Ya, I concure. I am now 26. And, I feel the same way you do. I wonder sometimes if collecting action figures is imature. It realy is not. People that have barbies fromt he 60's arnt thought imature, why should we. I have played drums for 11 years now, and I havnt had a girlfriend in like 3 years, I used to get all womens. But, I stopped dating all the time. Im waiting for the right girl now. Action figures take up my "build my girlfriends self asteem time", unfortunately, you know how much fun it is convincing your girlfriends, that they realy are pretty, and realy not fat. But, like oldboy said, as long as your action figure hobby does not interfear with responcibilities too much, than theres not a damn thing wrong with it. In fact, its a lot cheaper then a girl, and its safe sex . 80% of action figure collectors are at least 16, more are in their 20's, or older. You are not alone dude. "Remeber, I'm pullin for you, we're all in this together."(Red Green quote). BTW, my action figure collection brings me more of a thrill than most of the times I've had sex. Most....

First off you have to realize that as you grow up some things need to be taken seriously and other things are...well just there to take up time between the serious stuff. Now the obvious serious stuff is food, clothing, shelter and toys, the rest is all just stuff to do while you're not enaging in the 4 primary needs of life

I myself am now 25, I played with toys for about 11 years, "grew out of toys" for about a year and have now been collecting for 13 years...whoa...I just realized that I've been collecting toys for more then half of my life....kinda crazy but anyway back to you...everyone needs a hobby. Some people read, some people watch tv, others play games, many people collect. We all fall into that last category, what does it matter what you collect as long as it makes you happy?

As for the toys over chicks thing...that might be bad but I'm not sure. Less then half an hour ago my gf told me to come to bed, I made it into the bedroom where I started playing with my McFarlane Water Clan Dragons at which point I was told to turn off the light, go away and take my toy with me. So that I did and now I'm sitting here proudly talking about toys while my lil dragon buddy hangs out on my desk

Ok, it's getting late and I think I'm rambling so I'm going to head out. Just remember if it makes you happy just do it, age is just a number not a state of being
