Hi Figure Realm! Long time, no see. No major disaster or severe injury this time, just life getting in the way, lost track of time, got busy, that's all. Anyway, my recovery has gone reasonably well, and even though I'm still not perfect (typing is still a chore, so I'm going to keep this description brief-ish for now, 'til someone else can type a more comprehensive write-up for me later), I haven't stopped working on figures. Still doing NECA-style TMNT '87 cartoon figures, and today's is pretty epic. Check out the massive Chrome Dome!!

In the old cartoon, Shredder created Chrome Dome to be a massive robotic terror, 12-15 feet tall! Of course, the actual scale varied wildly from shot to shot, but there was no question I'd need a 1:6 figure to build this bad boy. I got me a cheap rotocast Black Spider-Man figure (NOT the ToyBiz ML Icons or Hasbro ML Series Max or whatever they were called), and set to work. Had to shorten him a bit, he was too tall and lanky. Also had to modify the shoulders 'cuz the rotocast shoulders didn't have much range of motion. Replaced the hands with a pair from a Sigma 6 Snake Eyes, sculpted over to make them larger.

From there, it was just sculpt, sculpt, sculpt! Used TWO full tubes of Loctite Epoxy Repair Putty for this guy. The fins on his back are made from popsicle sticks. His odd retro-future ray gun is made from an old Cerebro Blaster from a classic ToyBiz Gen-X Banshee, and a few parts from some random GI Joe missile. Check out screenshots from the cartoon, it looks almost identical!

I was expecting this guy to be a more complicated build, but his design turned out to be really simple. I LOVE how massive and imposing he looks on the shelf with my NECA turtles (check out that last photo . . . no tricks, no stands, no wire work, no Photoshop trickery, he can hold a turtle in one hand, he can stand in an off balance pose, his joints are SOLID, he can literally hold a turtle up in the air, I could NOT stop giggling with glee as I was getting that photo!), and he's one of my favorite new additions to my collection!

TURTLE POWER!!

Some day, when I try to make him, can you help me go step by step?

I don't know about step by step, but I can offer some insight and recommendations, if you need.

How is the gun staying on his waist and able to come off?

Look closely at the "TARGET ACQUIRED" and "WEAPONS ENGAGED" photos. There's a gray peg sticking off the side of the gun. It plugs into a hole on his belt. Nothing fancy! The peg is actually the original handle for the early '90s X-Men gun that I used to make his gun. It was already there, so I figured why not use it?

Thanks for checking him out!

Thank you so much!

I don't sell my originals, but if you would like me to build a new one, I can source the parts and give you an estimate. If you look through my back-catalog, I actually sold a remake of my Comic Art Fugitoid to another Realmer a little while back.

I will warn you, while the design is simple, the time investment for Chrome Dome here was SUBSTANTIAL, and I do charge hours in my estimates. My prices are reasonable, but this guy would not be cheap, the sculpt was VERY time consuming.

But yeah, if you're interested, drop me a line!

Thanks for the praise! Yeah, I look for possible fodder from every toy line available. Marvel, DC, NECA, Fortnite, Power Rangers, Star Wars, Overwatch, WWE, MOTU, classic figures (Casey Jones and Baxter Stockman both use heads from the original TMNT toys), one of my most recent TMNT creations (that I haven't posted yet) uses a Ghostbusters figure! I try not to limit myself.

Thank you so much! No, I'm not much for social media in general. Just a Facebook. *LOL* I only really post my figures here, and occasionally on Toy News International.

Thanks! I tried to make him as cartoon-accurate as possible with the base figure I had. I'm REALLY pleased with how he turned out!

Thank you, and thank you! He isn't 12" anymore. He JUST barely reaches 11", and that's 'cuz of his dome and forehead crest. Without all the sculpting, I had cut him down to about 10-10.5" max. I shortened his torso (that's why he has no waist rotation, but the ball joint in the chest does that just fine), his lower arms (WAY too long anyway, Spidey was kind of a gorilla), his thighs, and his lower shins above the ankles. Still tall, but more in line with how he was portrayed in the cartoon.

. . . I think his head's a little too big, but the rest of him? I think he looks perfect, and couldn't be happier!!
