Little is known about Moff Gideon. He was a member of the Imperial Security Bureau and took part in the Great Purge. Believed to have been executed for war crimes, Gideon survived apparently still rules over a section of space he may've once been the Moff of. In attempting to capture "The Child", Moff Gideon becomes the big bad of season one of The Mandalorian, and looms as an imposing threat as season two approaches.

As soon as I saw the final episode of season one of The Mandalorian I knew I had to get a Gus Fring figure and see if the head would be in scale enough to fit a Black Series body. Fortunately it was. But I was very slow in getting him done. I spent several nights trying to mesh various limbs from several different Black Series figures trying to find some combination that I really liked, between Tarkin, Veers, Hux, Death Squad Commander, and Finn First Order figures, I eventually landed on a formula that, with some modifications to joints, I was pretty happy with. So the parts list goes something like this:

Gus Fring Breaking Bad Head
40th Death Squad Commander Torso, lower arms, and skirt
Finn First Order Disguise legs
General Hux upper arms (these gave the shoulders a little width to give more range to them once the spaulders were glued on)
Chest armor was a modified Veers piece
Shoulder spaulders was modified from a First Order Trooper should piece
Belt was modified from a Marvel Legends Machine Man belt
Cape was made from a trimmed down Krennic cloak

I toyed with cloth capes for several days, but I wanted to get this posted so I could move on to some other things. If I eventually make one I'm happy with I will update this post.

But that was only half the battle (knowing would be the other half if this were a Joe custom), because Hasbro has really upped their game with the digital face painting so I felt like I need to put a little extra effort into Moff Gideon's face. Normally I'd just slop on some brown and call it a day, but I spent a bit of time trying to blend and shade several browns, reds, etc. to get something I thought looked much more really. This was easily the most time I ever spent on painting a face, I'm not sure if all the subtle colors will come through in the photos, but I'm pretty satisfied with the results.

This was real labor of love, it took so long that I just assumed Hasbro would unveil him this past weekend at NYTF and make this all redundant, but they didn't, and he isn't coming, yet. Leak lists though make it look like he's in the works anyway, hopefully with a Darksaber because I need a couple of those anyway. I thought of making my own or buying one the cool 3D print versions I've seen around, but there isn't really much I could use for a hilt that would look accurate, and I didn't feel like paying for one because I'm cheap--that's why I make my own customs anyway, because I'm cheap.

This is the way.

Thanks for looking!
