Okay, had a loose head from a DC Direct Superman World of New Krypton Mon-El figure, and decided to make a DC Universe Classics version of him. To do this figure, I took a DC Universe Classics Starman (Ted Knight) and, using the boil and pop method, removed the head, arms, hands, and cape. Next, I used my razor knife to cut the existing belt off of him and separate the upper and lower body. Next, I gave the boots and trunks a full repaint with Testors Model Masters Midship Blue, followed by two generous coats of Flat Clear. While the blue paint was drying, I removed the belt from a broken DC Universe Classics/Signature Super Powers 30th Anniversary Superman figure, and using the boil and pop method again, I attached a set of hands from the fodder bin to the Starman arms, and then the arms to the body. Next, I commenced a repaint of the red belt loops on the Superman belt with the Testors Model Masters Midship Blue, again followed by two generous coats of Flat Clear. Once the blue paint and Flat Clear on the boots, trunks and belt loops was dry, I applied two small dabs of Testors Modeling Cement into the small seams at the bottom of the upper torso, and reassembled the body. Once the glue dried, I set about on the next repaint, which was the neck. To do this, I applied some Testors Acryl Peach to the neck. Once the paint on the neck had dried, I gave the neck two generous coats of Flat Clear. Once the Flat Clear on the neck had dried, I used my Dremel to sand down the ball joint attached to the Starman figure's neck into a cylindrical post. Once the cylindrical post was formed, I next used my Dremel to partially hollow out the inside of the Mon-El head. Next, I mixed up a small batch of Milliput and jammed it into the newly formed cavity inside the head, and, while the Milliput was still soft, I jammed the cylindrical post attached to the neck of the Superman figure into it to create a small hole in the center of the head cavity. Once the Milliput had dried, I test fit the head onto the neck, and satisfied with how the head and neck fit together, I glued the head in place atop the neck post. With the new head now attached, I made up another small glob of Milliput and jammed it into the plug hole for the cape on the figure's back, and while the Milliput was still soft, I jammed the cylindrical post attached to a Hasbro Marvel Legends Taskmaster into it to create a small hole in the center of the back. While the Milliput in the back hardened, I modded the Taskmaster cape to remove the chain that was attached in between the two cape clasps and then commenced a full repaint of the cape in Testors Model Masters Midship Blue and the cape clasps in Ctadel Sycorax Bronze, followed by two generous coats of Flat Clear. Next, I did a slight sanding of the Milliput in the figure's back followed by a repaint of the Milliput in Testors Model Masters Guards Red followed by two generous coats of Flat Clear (Yes, I know that no one will see it with the cape glued in place, but, as you all know, I have OCD...LOL). With the cape fully repainted, I glued it in place with some Crazy Glue. head cavity. Lastly, when the glue on the cape had fully set, and the cape was solidly held in place, I glued a new symbol onto the figure's left breast (the symbol was made by hand at a larger size, and then photocopied and shrunk to proper size), and TA-DA...Mon-El as he appeared during the World of New Krypton storyline!!! Please let me know what you guys think of him, and as always, comments are appreciated. ![]() |
