Nicely done! She came out great! And yeah, always thin your paints. Just water works. Distilled. Not from the bottle or sink. The general ratio is 2:1, paint to water, but I find it varies per paint. Some need less than others. And always acrylic, never enamel. You'll notice a massive difference using thinner paint and coats.

Great work here! To try and answer your question, I used to use Testors Model Masters Acryl flesh tone that I would mix with white and that always came out smooth. Unfortunately, that brand has been discontinued and I haven't really found a good substitute when it comes to skin tones. The general advice when it comes to avoiding lumpy paint is to apply multiple layers of very thin coats, waiting for each coat to fully dry before going over it with the next. Most brands of acrylics have corresponding thinners that work best with each of them. But yes, I totally relate to your frustration and I hope you will be able to find a solution!
