I always regretted not getting a 1st Appearance Sabretooth from the ToyBiz days to go on my X-Men shelf, especially since he'd been a part of some really important X-Men storylines in the 80's, such as the "Mutant Massacre". So imagine my great disappointment when Hasbro's idea of a 1st Appearance Sabretooth was shown to be a take on an ugly Sideshow statue design (apologies to the designer, as I'm sure they meant well, but... still). Fortunately, the great IBentMyManThing came along to save the day with another amazing painted head cast!
I repainted the hands, feet, and ankles a matching brown, yet a distinct color from the brown on his torso, just like in the comics. While he once had dumb, exposed fingers and toes, they're now gone. Now he just has sculpted seams on his boots and gloves, which I'm much more fine with. I also glued down his furry neck piece, which constantly kept wanting to pop up or off of him. Finally, I gave the head, hands, ankles, and feet a coating of matte Modpodge to help protect the paint in case he ever does a nose dive off of my shelf, or what have you.
I love this figure so much now (a huge difference from when I first saw the figure in the live stream all those months ago) that I've decided to pull the Jim Lee Sabretooth off of my X-Men and X-Villains shelf in favor of this guy. It's amazing what a little paint and a new head can do for a figure, no? Now Sabretooth looks like he stepped right out of that original Marvel Handbook, and I couldn't be more pleased.
