I wanted to keep messing around with anime figures as bases for customs and the results have...varied. So far the hardest part is finding figures that have good, flexible sculpts-most figures are either wearing their over the top character costumes or wearing "normal" clothes that really aren't mod-able. There are very few "generic" looking figures I've found that I like. However, swimsuit figures seem to be a plenty (in anime figures, shocker, I know) which at least allow some room to try and do customizing into another character. In this case, I decided to try making a Beach themed Raven and Starfire. No particular reason other than I had two figures and thought they would make a solid set. Both figures were originally two different Nami figures from One Piece. The Raven figure had the original hair cut down and then I resculpted it before everything except her eyes was repainted and then sealed. She stands roughly 7.5 inches tall. Starfire had similar treatment, although I cut back and resculpted far less of the original figures hair. She was also completely repainted except for the eyes and sealed. Getting the orange skin was tough, either it ended up being too light or too dark. The final result was better and looks better in person, but if I did it again, I'd try a different shade. She stands about 8.5 inches tall. Both figures also come with bases which I resculpted to look more like ground and then repainted and sealed them as well. Not very difficult customs, just very time consuming. I'm pleased with how they turned out, even if they are pretty fan-servicey. I'd like to continue trying to use anime figures as bases, so this was another good expirement. ![]() |
