There was a time when Wolverine, Spiderman, Fantastic Four, Beast and other famous Marvel characters joined the Avengers. Considering the fact that there are so many of them from the Founding Members, 1960's recruits, the first wave of 1970's recruits, Guardians of the Galaxy who time traveled to the 20th century and serve as honorary members during the Korvac saga, then the 2nd wave of 1970's recruits, the early 1980's recruits, West Coast Avengers, the later 1980's recruits, The Great Lakes Avengers, the early 1990's recruits, then the Post Heroes Return members, the Post Avengers disassembled recruits( New Avengers), and there's also the 1950's prototype group of Avengers. So definitely, Wolverine, whom we know as an Xmen nowadays is a part of New Avengers #6 (June,2005) when he joined the group. His identity as an Avenger was never that famous since he is more associated with the group X-men.
