Throughout U.S. history there have been Man-Bucks.

During the French and Indian War, a guerrilla fighter dressed in deer head and antlers fought for the colonies and continued to fight into the Revolutionary War. He was dubbed the Man-Buck because of his disguise. He became a great hero but then vanished one day. No one ever revealed his identity.

After a hundred years, at the start of the Civil War, the Man-Buck re-emerged. But this time, there were two; one fought for the north and one the south. They both wore the emblem of a stag on their tunics and a kerchief over their faces to protect their true identities. It was thought that they were brothers, a family broken apart. By the end of the war, both had distinguished themselves as heroes for their sides and then both disappeared back into peaceful society.

By the end of the century, there were rumors that a new Man-Buck was working for the U.S. government. It was said that under the cover of night, he stopped several sabotage missions by foreign agents, fiendish plots cooked up by mad scientists, and generally saved the country from ruination.

Whether the same one or not, a Man-Buck fought for the U.S (briefly) in the Spanish- American War and then in Europe in the First World War. After WW1, a government operative using the Man-Buck attire (by this time just a signet ring with a stag symbol on it and a suit of leather and armor) fought against the growing number of gangsters causing havok in the U.S.

In World War Two Man-Buck was being dropped into the jungles of Burma, fighting Rommel in the deserts of Africa, helping the Russians at Stalingrad, and may or may not have assisted Hitler in commiting suicide in that Berlin bunker. After WW2, Man-Buck again fought organized crime and did jobs undercover for the government stopping foreign spies who were trying to steal atomic secrets. And this is where Man-Buck went from ordinary human to superhuman.

During the late fifties and early sixties Man-Buck had absorbed quite a bit of radiation from various missions. His genetic make-up changed and when his son was born, the son had a most peculiar talent. He could create an energy gas from almost anything in which he came in contact. A new Man-Buck was born with more "naturally" occuring power than any previous incarnation. As he grew, he was told the secret that he was a member of a family of heroes who fought for America throughout it's history. He was given the responsibility to carry on the family tradition. And, with the aid of some government financing, the newest Man-Buck was given an armored suit to harness his gas and direct it for good.
