**Update** been having a few requests pop up on the forums and off for a better front pic. Here you go! In a nutshell: My first completed custom figure. I wanted to do my take on a huge "sasquatch-like" chewbacca, so i used the ml9 grey hulk as the base (who had the perfect ugly monkey face to work with). Primed him black to start off with, then sculpted the rest. Did a full paint job (about 4 or 5 shades on the paint job), finished it off with a tiny bit of silver to dry brush some specific spots. I really wanted to give him a war-torn desert look, so i started off with a basic brown as the base, then added about 2 more shades of brown to get a more textured look. After that i worked on the fine details by using a lot of dry brushing with light browns, then did quite a bit of washing with the darker brown/black (to get all the crevices in the figure to darken up, giving it a nice depth). Finally i added a tiny bit of silver to the figure by dry brushing very specific parts, to give him a worn, old man chewie look. Accessories: Bowcaster: i used a generic machine gun from an old 12in bishop. Basically sanded most of it down to give it that original star wars "dirty machine" look, then added some sculpt to the bottom for a vine-style addition, as well as adding the crossbow section at the top. Also added the spheres on both sides to match his original "bowcaster" weapon style. Used dark colors for the paint job then dry brushed with a silvery-black, and insignia blue (model master acryl paints). Satchel: got the satchel from a heroes hiro figure, then gave it a leather-style paint job. For the latches on the side i used green stuff to sculpt, and pieces of a doc-oc claws for the connectors to the leather strap. Really gave it a nice "makeshift" look. For the strap i actually used a piece of leather from my wifes old bag, cut it down to size, repainted, added a metal button on the back to latch and un-latch, and added pieces of a doc-oc arm as the metal plates on the strap. Did a little vine-type sculpt in the front. Overall the whole figure took about 30hrs, so it was quite a feat, but i really love the outcome. Ready for the next one! (I didn't really feature the gun/bag on the pictures as much as i would have liked to, but i thought the overall design was more important in this situation to really showcase the figure) The process: - - - - The figure Priming: 1.5hrs Sculpting: 17hrs Painting: 6hrs - - - - The gun Sanding/sculpting: 2hrs Painting: 1.5hrs - - - - The satchel/strap Constructing: 1.5hrs Painting: 1.5hrs ![]() |
