I have to admit that I'm really not a big Superman fan...I remember really liking him as a kid and seeing the "Superman" movie (starring Christopher Reeve) in the theatre...Yeah, I'm old... but aside from that, I really have not cared much for old Supes until the "Kingdom Come" mini series by Alex Ross and Mark Waid was released several years ago. The concept of an aging Superman intrigued me, and I thought Ross did an excellent job of portraying him that way. When DC Direct started releasing Kingdom Come figures, I started collecting them, but while they were decent sculpts, they did not have a whole lot of articulation. I'm a huge fan of the DCUC line and thought it would be neat to do a Kingdom Come Superman that would fit in with the rest of my collection. I was originally going to use the original head from the DCSH Supes and do some sculpting to make him look a little aged. I had put my Kingdom Come Superman figure on my trading thread some time ago, I thought the head was too large for a DCUC base figure. But after looking through Alex Ross's work, I noticed that he tends to draw heads slightly bigger in proportion to their bodies. I determined that I could still use the head if I manipulated it a little bit. So I cut the head in half and reduced the width from front to back, then I repositioned the ears a little lower. I also sculpted a thicker neck on the DCSH body. I repainted the logo, hair, and skin and now I have a fully poseable Kingdom Come Kal-El. Please wait... |
