This has always been one of my favorite droids (perhaps THE favorite) especially in the silver version, seen aboard the jawa's sand crawler. When Hasbro released this, I was so disappointed that they took a huge short-cut by useing the same molds from C3PO for the arms and legs. The limbs of the Death Star droid (and silver jawa version) do NOT have the same details as C3PO. Its limbs are smooth, and the knee joints are very different too. I included comparisons of the two versions so you can see the changes I made. Also, the Death Star droid was released with metalic blue eyes, which I changed to the correct silver color. Sanding off the thick lines from the arms and legs, rebuilding the knee joints, and covering all the seams was a lot of hard work. I had to completely disassemble the droid many times, and when it was ready, I sealed the cracks and covered them- so now it can never be taken apart again. Also, I created accurate detail for the waist; I made all the wires and metal tubes, and the textured black rubber background behind them. In addition, I made the waist joint much more articulated. I also wanted to increase the arm articulation, so I cut the arms off and added some length to them, so they could fit inside the shoulder cuffs. I attached them with silicone rubber bands, so now they move independantly from the shoulder joints. I hope you like it!... Someday I will make a new right hand for it, and discard the 'kung-fu grip' hand...lol Please wait... |
