Gecko and his fellow reptilian cohorts were inadvertently created by Curt Connors when he disposed of the chemicals that turned him into the Lizard down the drain. The creatures in the sewers consumed the chemicals and once mutated by them kidnapped Connors. Triggering Connors' transformation back into the Lizard, Gecko worshiped the Lizard with all the zeal of a cult member following his bidding in battling Spider-Man.
