If you want to retain articulation without resorting to Aves sculpt to create a new socket for the hip rotation, dremmel around where the new legs socket is, so you're left with legs with a piece of plastic on top that still holds it firmly. It will look strange (mainly because there's nothing that plastic is attached to. Then, using super glue and pressure (while turning the new pelvis/legs to avoid it sticking), you press it into the new space you've dremmed in your Peter's torso.
Check out tutorials online for splicing parts, or just experiment.
Get this stuff instead, and a sanding sponge from your local hardware store. Your work will improve drastically, and you'll have more fun working with this material on your customs:

Even veteran customizers need to watch out for crazy torso lengths, or monkey-length arms when splicing parts. This image is a helpful guide to avoiding that.
Peter, by human standards is horribly distended. Also, he's kind of... missing a hand. Might... want to fix that.
