First appearing in The Mighty Thor Vol. 1 #134 (November 1966), the High Evolutionary is a scientist who has mastered the process of genetic acceleration. Conducting his experiments under the seclusion of Wundagore Mountain he super-evolved local animals into half-animal, half-human beings that he dubbed his "New Men." Training these new men in both combat and chivalry he eventually came to refer to them as his Knights of Wundagore.
